New Releases February 20 Through 26, 2011

For the first time in 2011, we've really got an impressive lineup of new releases headed to stores. No more hoping that a single title might be worth picking up - this week, gamers are going to have to pick and choose which titles to take home.

It's an embarrassment of riches for shooter fans this week. Leading the charge is Sony's premiere in-house FPS franchise, Killzone 3, but for a completely different take on the genre, gamers need look no further than People Can Fly's Bulletstorm. For the less violent (or simply younger) players out there, THQ is offering up a multiplatform sequel to Wii's de Blob, and Sega is putting out its first Dreamcast Collection.

Take a look at the new releases for February 20 through 26, 2011, broken out by platform and date.

  • Remote Racers 2/21

Sony's everything-to-everyone shooter, Killzone 3, finally makes its debut this week. Single player, co-op, multiplayer, 3D visuals, and Move support are all included. Developer Guerrilla Games appears to have outdone itself this time, with genuinely astonishing visuals and tremendous attention to community feedback that is already resulting in a patch for the game's online component. Is the third time the charm for Killzone? Stay tuned to Game Rant for the final verdict. Killzone 3 will be available February 22, 2011, exclusively for the PlayStation 3.

An increasingly common complaint about modern shooters is that they are much too serious, and have become grim, solemn affairs. No one, but no one, will make any such claim about Bulletstorm. The phrase "over the top" cowers in the face of Bulletstorm, a game so dedicated to ridiculous, gory excess (just check out Skillisode Episode 4) that Fox News famously queried whether it might be "the  worst video game in the world?" They'll be able to find out, just like the rest of us, when Bulletstorm is released February 22, 2011, for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

On a console not typically known for the strength of its third party lineup (yep, we're talking about the Wii), de Blob was a unique proposition: a fun, original property executed with a ton of style and polish. This time out, de Blob will be everywhere. There is a real dearth of quality all-ages content out there right now, particularly on non-Nintendo consoles, so let's hope that de Blob's new adventure measures up to his charming debut. de Blob 2 comes to the Xbox 360, DS, Wii, and PS3 February 22, 2011.

Sega Bass Fishing, Space Channel 5 Part 2, Sonic Adventure, and Crazy Taxi comprise the first-ever Dreamcast Collection. Yes, it's a bummer that two of these games have already seen release as downloadable titles for the Xbox 360 and PS3. And yes, it would be nice to have more than four games in the collection, especially if those additional games included Jet Grind Radio and Phantasy Star Online. But for $29.99, it remains a pretty compelling package, and if this one sells well, maybe we'll get more in the future. The Dreamcast Collection will be available for the Xbox 360 and PC February 22, 2011.

As always, we want to hear from you. What games will you be picking up this week? What games on the horizon are you most looking forward to?
