Though it has considerably fewer than some of the courses in the base version of New Pokemon Snap, Barren Badlands (Night) has more photo requests than any of the other courses added as part of the game's 2.0 update. There are six of them in total, with the majority requiring players to reach research level 2, which is the effective maximum for the course. Due to the wide array of Pokemon on offer though, this shouldn't take too long for those who know what they're doing.
The requests range from ridiculously simple to incredibly technical. One thing they all have in common though is that the photos that they lead to are incredibly unique and provide players with a great way to get four star snaps of many of the course's Pokemon. One of them is even dedicated to the ever-present Vivillon, which was the only Pokemon not receive its own photo request in the base version of the game.
Guardian Of Friends Request Guide
In order to unlock the Guardian of Friends request, players will need to complete a run in which they take the course's alternate route. To do this, they'll need to throw Illumina Orbs at two of the Diglett in the starting areas and take pictures of them when they pop up. If players then illuminate the Crystabloom from distance, the Digllet will knock over the giant boulder and players will be able to perform a scan to switch routes.
After receiving Todd's request, players will need to return to the default route and look for Rockruff, Torchic, Shinx, and Tepig sleeping not far from a Mandibuzz's nest. As they approach, they should hit Rockruff with a Fluffruit to wake it up and then follow that up with an Illumina Orb. If timed correctly, the Rockruff will proceed to scare away the approaching Mandibuzz, leading to all four Pokemon celebrating Rockruff's victory.
To complete the request, players will need a four-star shot of Rockruff roaring, although they can also get some decent pictures of the others while they're at it. It's worth noting that it takes a few seconds for the Rockruff to wake up and it will run away if players are too slow, so it's best to wake it up as soon as possible to avoid this happening.
Crust-Side Down Request Guide
Players will receive the Crust-side Down request from Professor Mirror when they reach research level 2. He'll explain that he's curious about what would happen if a Crustle ever got flipped over and enlist the player's help in finding out. As it happens, he doesn't have to wait too long as this request takes place right at the beginning of the course.
Over to the right of the course's starting position, players will see a sleeping Tyranitar over by the Crystabloom. They'll need to wake it by hitting it with a Fluffruit. Hitting it when near to the Tyranitar will lead to the Pokemon attacking the NEO-ONE though, so players will need to make the shot from distance. If done successfully, Tyranitar will blame Crustle and knock it over, allowing players to take a four star photo for the professor.
If players are too close, it's simply a matter of restarting the course and trying again. In some rare instances, Tyranitar may use Sandstorm instead of attacking Crustle and this becomes far more likely if players have woken Zeraora too. Again though, it's simply a matter of restarting the course if this happens and should not require more than a handful of attempts.
Gassy Swamp Battle Request Guide
Upon reaching research level 2, there'll be a couple of Sandshrew over to the player's left as soon as they enter the course. Assuming they have the request already, they should throw an Illumina Orb at the one on the left which will cause it to roll down towards the player. Just as it's preparing to roll, however, players should throw an Illumina Orb at the nearby Diglett, which, if timed correctly, will cause the two Pokemon to collide.
After the crash, players will need to snap a photo of them both, which will cause the pair to burrow underground and head towards the area with the poisonous gas. Players should then use Turbo to make their way to the next area, where they'll encounter the Sandshrew again. Hitting it with another Illumina Orb will cause it to roll once again, this time into the sleeping Scolipede. Players should then throw Fluffruit at the nearby Gliscor, which will cause it to wake up and fly over to one of the Minior craters.
As players approach the craters, the Minior will crash down, causing the Gliscor to head over to the Scolipede. Players can get a four star photo of both Pokemon here, but for the request, they'll need one where Scolipede is the subject. It should be attacking, and both Pokemon should be somewhere in the frame.
Sleepy Gliscor Request Guide
Players won't be able to tackle the Sleepy Gliscor request until after they have reached research level 2. Once the request comes in, they should start the course by hitting the Vivillon to their left with an Illumina orb and then photographing two Diglett as quickly as they can. From here, they'll need to illuminate the Crystabloom and switch to the alternate route and should then use Turbo to reach the geyser as quickly as possible.
Once on the raised platform, players should hit the two Vivillon to their left with Illumina Orbs and then ping a Fluffruit at the sleeping Fliscor so that it wakes up and flies over to the platform on the left. If timed correctly, one of the Vivillon will be passing over the area at this exact moment and will get into an argument of sorts with the still irate Gliscor.
The Vivillon should still be glowing at this point, but if it isn't players should hit it with another Illumina Orb just in case. After a moment, the Vivillon will use Sleep Powder on Gliscor before fluttering away. A few seconds later, the Gliscor will let out a huge yawn, and players should get a shot of this four star pose in order to complete Phil's request.
Illusion Of The Badlands Request Guide
The most difficult part of the Illusion of the Badlands request isn't finding Zeraora, but actually waking it up. It's a little reminiscent of the Sitting and Waiting request from Blushing Beach (Night), in that players will need to make a very difficult shot in a very short amount of time. Thankfully, much like that request, this comes right at the beginning of the course, meaning that it's very easy to restart if things don't quite go to plan.
Before doing anything, players will need to locate the sleeping Zeraora over to the left of the NEO-ONE's starting position. With their target now acquired, players should throw Fluffruit at it so that it wakes up and runs away. Once it reaches the top of a cliff over on the other side of the giant stone archway, players should throw a Fluffruit at the sleeping Tyranitar, being sure to do so from as great a distance as possible.
If all goes to plan, Tyranitar will use Sandstorm and the Zerarora will jump down. If players hit it with an Illumina Orb, it will become electrically charged and players should get a four star photo of it attacking the Tyranitar to complete the Professor's request. It's also possible to get a four star shot of Tyranitar here, as well as one to three star shots of Zeraora.
Valley Of Vivillon Request Guide
Having been passed over in the base version of the game, Vivillon finally gets its dedicated request in Barren Badlands (Night). As it happens, it's one of the most complicated and technical requests in the game and will likely take players a few attempts to get right. The first step is relatively straightforward though, with players simply needing to hit the three Vivillon flying in front of them at the start of the course with Illumina Orbs.
With all three Pokemon illuminated, players should turn their attention to the nearby Diglett, hitting at least two of them with Illumina Orbs and snapping their pictures. Some players have reported needing to do this with five Diglett, but others have made it work with two. After dealing with the Diglett, players should hit illuminate the nearby Crystabloom and then scan to switch over to the default route.
Upon reaching the top, they should turn to their right and illuminate the Crystabloom beneath them as quickly as possible. This will cause more Vivillon to join the already sizeable group and players can start snapping photos once they all start to sparkle. Strangely, the Professor will accept photos of any star level for this request, providing that it has the request symbol in the top right-hand corner of the photo selection screen at the end of the run. It is possible to get a four star shot, although given how far away the Pokemon are, players will likely already have a better one in their Photodex anyway.
