New Pokemon Snap is a deceptively difficult game. Sure, completing the main story by meeting all of the Illumina Pokemon is easy. Finishing the Photodex and getting four-star photos of every species is a different story. The developers have done an excellent job of making the Lental Region feel like a living, breathing world.

Each Pokemon has a variety of behaviors and interactions, some of which aren't covered by requests or the Photodex. Because the game is so addicting, players will probably go through each course many times. Even so, there are some hidden secrets and easter eggs that take more than just a lot of observation to see.

10 Heliolisk Fight

New Pokemon Snap Heliolisk Fight

Heliolisk mostly uses its neck frill to capture solar energy, but it's also good for showing off. It might seem impossible to get two Heliolisk together in Sweltering Sands (Day), but one is hiding in its den and itching for a little fight.

Right after the oasis and before the area with the sand pits, there's a rock with a small Pokemon den in it. The Heliolisk is in here. It is quite hard to throw Illumina Orbs inside the den, as it passes pretty quickly, but keep trying. Once it comes out, it'll run over to a sleeping Heliolisk and the two will start to quarrel. This is a four-star interaction, although it's not the only one Heliolisk has. If players just want to fill out the Photodex, it is easier to capture it running on the water.

9 Clamnapped!

New Pokemon Snap Drifblim Clamperl

Drifblim are found in the Night variations of Blushing Beach and Maricopia Reef. They don't seem to do much other than float, and occasionally scoop up a fluffruit from the player. But a sharp-eyed photographer might be able to spot them up to some more nefarious deeds.

In the post-game Reef (Evening) map, take a closer look at the Drifblim flying throughout the stage. Some of them are carrying Clamperl. At the end, it seems like the Drifblim drop their cargo off in a safe place. In the last section of Blushing Beach (Night), there's another Drifblim with a Clamperl in tow. This one doesn't seem to be setting it down. Maybe we don't want to know where they're going.

8 Glalie The Bully

New Pokemon Snap Avalugg Roar

Glalie is one of the crankiest Pokemon in the game. It roars at the player when awoken in Outaway Cave, and in Shiver Snowfields it puts up its ice armor. It seems to be rather docile around other Pokemon, especially Froslass. However, there's one Pokemon it just doesn't seem to get along with, and that's Avalugg.

Go to Shiver Snowfields (Day) at Level 3 and head down the Ice Cave path. An Avalugg is asleep among the ice floes, along with a nearby Glalie. Wake up the Glalie and lure it with fluffruit until it's near Avalugg's tail. Then, throw an Illumina Orb at it and it'll bite down on Avalugg's behind. How rude! This might take a few tries, but a photo of the disturbed Avalugg is automatically four stars.

7 Golisopod's Slash

New Pokemon Snap Golisopod

The ancient ruins path in Lental Undersea is crawling with Golisopod. At first, it might look like they're asleep, but they're just very slow-moving. The Hard Scale Pokemon will react to each other and startle when Lugia roars. They will also eat fluffruit given to them.

To get a more active shot of Golisopod, wait until players pass the last one in the course. There's a rock pillar nearby. Lure Golisopod towards the pillar with fluffruit. If it gets close enough, it'll decide to do a little training. Take a photo as Golisopod uses Slash on the rocks, cutting them right in half.

6 Lotad Tower

New Pokemon Snap Stacked Lotad

The leaf on Lotad's head is so sturdy that other Pokemon can ride on top of it. It's possible to take a photo of several Lotad stacked up, but since the main route only has one Lotad, players will need to find the Sunny Area alternate path. This leads to a section that has many Lotad.

To get the Lotad to ride each other, hit one with a fluffruit to stun it. Then, throw Illumina Orbs at all the nearby Lotad. It may take a few tries, but hopefully, they will hop on top of each other. Playing the Melody can also help in this situation. Getting this tricky photograph is an automatic four stars.

5 It's The Great Pumpkaboo, Charlie Brown

New Pokemon Snap Super Size Pumpkaboo

Pumpkaboo come in various sizes. The rarest and largest variety is the Super Size Pumpkaboo. A photo of the Super Size is worth four stars, but it's tricky to make it come out. Go to Outaway Cave at Level 3. On the way down to the garden area, throw Illumina Orbs at the three Average Pumpkaboo and the one Large Pumpkaboo.

Then, make Diancie appear by throwing Orbs at Mawile and the two Carbink. Throw one more at Diancie to make it dance. The next Pumpkaboo the player sees should be the huge Super Size.

4 Fancy and Poke Ball Vivillon

New Pokemon Snap Poke Ball Vivillon

The two rarest varieties of Vivillon are hiding in the Research Camp. To find the Fancy Vivillon, look for a tree filled with Starly near the beginning of the course. Throw fluffruit at the Starly and they will fly over to another tree. As they roost, the flower-patterned Fancy Vivillon comes out.

For the second variety, look for Dedenne in the parked NEO-ONE. Knock it out of the vehicle and lure it to the shrubs with fluffruit. It will lure out the Poke Ball Vivillon. A photo of either of these rare Vivillon is always four stars.

3 Ho-Oh's Pose

New Pokemon Snap Ho-Oh

The Legendary Pokemon Ho-Oh flies throughout Fireflow Volcano after the main story is finished. Players don't need to do anything to get a photo of it, but for a better shot, they'll need to do a little searching. There are three rainbow feathers floating throughout the stage. Take the Blue Magma route. One is on the left side of the tunnel, another is near Torkoal, and the third is in the blue chamber. Throw Illumina Orbs at all of them

Hitting all three feathers will cause Ho-Oh to reappear at the end of the stage. Hit it with an Illumina Orb and it will strike a pose. Look familiar? That's because it's in a similar pose on Pokemon Gold's boxart.

2 Mew

New Pokemon Snap Mew

Mew was the "final boss" of the original Pokemon Snap, so naturally, it has a cameo. In Founja Jungle (Night), turn around right as the stage begins and play the Melody. A strange orb will appear. Throw a fluffruit at it and Mew shows itself. It will reappear throughout the stage, so keep hitting the orb with fluffruit.

After this, Mew will also appear in Founja Jungle (Day). It appears throughout the stage without its orb form. Throw Illumina Orbs at it to keep it teleporting. In the end, it will be willing to accept fluffruit. Photos of Mew eating are worth three stars.

1 Flying Blastoise

A photo of Blastoise in New Pokemon Snap

In the Maricopia Reef, there's a large whirlpool around the midpoint of the course. A scan says there's something hiding, but throwing Illumina Orbs turns up nothing. That's because the Pokemon within only comes out in the postgame Evening course.

Throwing a few Orbs into the whirlpool causes Blastoise to rise out of the water. It'll use its water cannons like a jetpack to fly away into the distance. Want a real challenge? Try getting a photo of Squirtle riding on Blastoise's back. Wingull has to knock Squirtle into the whirlpool before Blastoise comes out for this to happen.
