The Secret Side Path is one of three courses that were added to New Pokemon Snap as part of the version 2.0 update. Before players can visit the course though, they'll first need to speak with Phil about the NEO-ONE's new Shrink function and then scan a tree in the area near the lake in the Park (Day) course. After that, players will be able to access both the day and nighttime variants of the Secret Side Path from the course select screen.

Being shrunk down not only allows players to get some great close-up shots of Pokemon that were already in the game, but also provides them with an opportunity to encounter a couple of new Pokemon; one of which is a fan favorite. There's also an alternate route within the side path and two new requests relating to the newly added Pokemon for players to sink their teeth into.

Research Level 1

  • Wurmple - Wurmple is one of the first Pokemon that players will see upon entering the course. There's another around the point where the two routes meet back up and three to the player's right in the area where the three Torterra square off against the Dodrio.
  • Pichu - Pichu shows up at various points throughout the course and follows the player from the opening section right through to the Flowery Meadow.
  • Scorbunny - Much like the Park (Day) and Park (Night) courses, Scorbunny and Pichu tend to stick together and can be snapped in all the same spots.
  • Dodrio - Dodrio first appears near the beginning of the course and shows up at various points. It's generally causing chaos and so is difficult to miss.
  • Comfey - There are a couple of Comfey in the area with the sleeping Snorlax and a few more in the open area just before the NEO-ONE reverts back to normal size.
  • Emolga - There's an Emolga sat on a rock on the main route just after the point where the path branches off. If players stick to the default path, they'll find themselves riding on the back of another Emolga a little later on.
  • Pidgeot - A Pidgeot can be seen flying overhead near the start of the course. It shows up again a little later on when the Dodrio and Torterra square off.
  • Snorlax - Players can find a sleeping Snorlax by scanning for the alternate route near the beginning of the course. If they throw four Fluffruit into its mouth, it will show up in the flowery meadow near the exit, though this technically counts as the Park (Day) course. Hitting it with an Illumina Orb will cause it to run over to the NEO-ONE, allowing players to get a great four-star photo and fulfill one of the Professor's requests.
  • Shroomish - There are a bunch of Shroomish hanging around in the area where the two routes join back up with one another. Hitting the nearby Crystabloom with an Illumina Orb will light three of them up, at which point using the Melody Player will cause them to dance and players can get a four-star photo for Rita. There are also some in the flowery meadow, but like the Snorlax, this area is still technically classed as Park (Day) on the map. A sleeping Sylveon can also be found in this area.
  • Bidoof - There are a couple of Bidoof crawling through some hollowed-out tree branches near the middle of the course.
  • Vivillon - A meadow pattern Vivillon can be found resting on a Torterra shortly after players pass through the first of the two hollowed-out branches. If players hit it with an Illumina Orb as they pass, they'll then encounter a garden pattern Vivillon after exiting the second branch.
  • Torterra - Players will pass under a sleeping Torterra straight after emerging from inside the first hollowed-out branch. They'll then see three more in the open area that's just before the flowery meadow.
  • Taillow - There are two Tailow hanging around in the area immediately after the second hollowed-out branch. They'll fly away as soon as the Dodrio shows up though, so players will need to be quick if they want to get a photo of them.
