Although Professor Mirror's Research Camp starts out as the location for New Pokemon Snap's camera and item tutorials, players will eventually get a chance to explore it properly once they have photographed their second Illumina Pokemon. After photographing their third, Todd will suggest exploring the course from a different starting point and, from here on out, visiting the course and then returning to the main menu will switch between the two starting points.

While the two routes are fairly similar, the positions and behavior of the course's Pokemon vary depending on which one players take. It's also possible to head inside the lab itself on both routes simply by performing a scan near the wooden decking area. The camp is home to 13 different types of Pokemon in total, ten of which can't be found anywhere else in New Pokemon Snap. As a result, it's a great place to pad out one's Photodex early on in the game.

Research Level 1

  • Meowth - Meowth can be found sleeping against an unused NEO-ONE at the beginning of the default route. If players head inside the lab, throwing a few Fluffruit into the area above the garage area will cause an angry Meowth to come to the top of the ladder and getting a picture of this will fulfill one of the course's photo request requirements.
  • Stoutland - Stoutland hangs out near the starting area on the default route and will later wander into the area in the center of the camp. If players use the alternate starting position, they'll instead find it asleep inside the lab.
  • Rattata - Players will need to lure the sleeping Meowth over towards the decking if they want to see Rattata when following the main route. When using the alternate starting route, however, Rattata can instead be found hanging out at the camp fire with Trubbish.
  • Starly - There are Starly all over the research camp, but the best place to photograph them is over by the wooden cabins when following the alternate route.
  • Audino - Audino hangs out inside the lab when starting the course from the default position. When using the alternate starting point, however, players will instead find it by the picnic area. If players feed the Cutiefly by the lab entrance two Fluffruit, it will fly over to the picnic area too, causing Audino to do a little dance.
  • Dedenne - Dedenne hangs out in the lab if players start from the default position and can be lured over to the PC with Fluffruit for an easy four star photo. When using the alternate starting point, Dedenne is instead sleeping on top of one of the NEO-ONEs near the other starting point.
  • Eevee - Players will find Eevee on one of the picnic tables with Trubbish when following the default route, although it can be made to go into the center of the camp by hitting Trubbish with a Fluffruit. If following the alternate route though, Eevee can instead be found sleeping in the lab. An Illumina Orb followed by a single scan should be enough to wake it.
  • Trubbish - On the main route, Trubbish is found on one of the picnic tables and hiding under a desk inside the lab. When using the alternate starting point, however, it likes to hang out around the campfire.
  • Pikachu - Pikachu spends most of its time over near the picnic area if players follow the default route. If players follow the alternate route, however, it will instead hang out in the grass near the default starting area.
  • Sudowoodo - Players will be able to see Sudowoodo near the camp entrance on the main route, although won't be able to get a decent picture until they follow the alternate route. When doing so, Sudowoodo will start near where Bunnelby pops out of the ground, but can be made to march into the center of the camp by luring it to the nearby Crystabloom and illuminating the flower with an Illumina Orb. If players don't do this, Sudowoodo will later show up by the water trough and players can snap a hilarious photo by using Fluffruit to splash it with water.
  • Cutiefly - There are Cutiefly in the bushes over near the camp entrance on the main route and using the Melody Player and then capturing the moment one touches its cheeks will fulfill a photo request. On the alternate route, there's one near the decking area and three inside the lab, although they'll only show up if players scan the TV. Hitting them with Illumina Orbs will cause them to play with Eeevee if players have already woken it up.
  • Bunnelby - Bunnelby's ears will pop out of one of three holes in the corner of the camp and hitting it with a Fluffruit will cause it to jump out. If players hit it with an Illumina Orb immediately after the Fluffruit makes contact, the Bunnelby will jump a little higher. When following the alternate route, Bunnelby can instead be found jumping on some wooden poles near the entrance to the camp.
  • Vivillon - There are two different types of Vivillon at the research camp, the first of which is the fancy pattern variant. It shows up on the default route from a tree over towards Bunnelby's holes, but only if players scare the Starly out of the tree in the picnic area first. The Pokeball pattern Vivillon is hidden on the alternate route, but it's a little difficult to find. Players will first need to wake the Dedenne that's sleeping on top of the NEO-ONE by hitting it with a Fluffruit and then use more Fluffruit to lure it to a bush towards the edge of the camp (scan will identify which one). The window for doing this is quite tight, but it will count as a four star photo if players are able to pull it off.
