The Mightywide River is the second of three new courses that were added to New Pokemon Snap as part of its 2.0 update. The daytime variant of the course features 20 different types of Pokemon, making it one of the largest and most densely populated courses in the game. What's more, six of these Pokemon are brand new additions to New Pokemon Snap, making the River (Day) course an incredibly exciting one for series fans.

While most of the Pokemon in the course are water-types, which is perhaps to be expected given its river theme, there are a couple of additions that will likely surprise some. Unfortunately, players will need to reach research level 3 before they can see all of the Pokemon that call the river their home, although, for those who know what they're doing, this shouldn't take all that long.

Research Level 1

  • Magikarp - Unsurprisingly, perhaps, Magikarp shows up constantly throughout the course and is one of the first Pokemon that players will encounter. There are some in the Moonlit Cave later on and there's an easily missed one near the course's exit, which can be found by throwing a Fluffruit into the water to the player's left.
  • Metapod - There are some Metapod to the player's left as soon as they enter the course. Another can be found hanging from a branch a little later on.
  • Beautifly - Some Beautifly appear at both the start and the end of the course and are fairly difficult to miss due to their flight path.
  • Sobble - If players look to their right near the start of the course, they'll see a Sobble running through the bushes. The same Sobble can then be seen several times after this, usually running through the course to the player's left.
  • Grookey - Grookey shows up in all the same locations as Sobble and so is fairly difficult to miss.
  • Aipom - Players will see a group of Aipom running along some clifftops near the start of the course and they'll later show up to tease Psyduck before the first set of rapids. At research level 3, there'll also be a bunch of Aipom near the start of the course, and interacting with the one hiding in the bushes on the right will lead to it peering down from the ceiling later on in the Moonlit Cave and then appearing at the end of the course.
  • Feraligatr - Feraligatr pops out of the water directly in front of players as they travel around the first bend in the course. It then shows up again later on in the water near the course's exit. Once players have unlocked the Moonlit Cave, they'll also be able to find a few Feraligatr in there as well.
  • Psyduck - Psyduck can be seen sobbing to the player's left just before the first set of rapids and then shows up periodically throughout the rest of the course. Sometimes, players will need to throw Illumina Orbs into the water to get it to appear through. At research level 3, it will come right up to the NEO-ONE near the exit and can also be found in the Moonlit Cave.
  • Vivillon - There's a jungle pattern Vivillon on a wall to the player's right as they drop down the first set of rapids. If they illuminate the nearby Crystabloom, the Vivillon will show up again at the end of the course. At research level 3, a river pattern Vivillon will also appear if players illuminate the Crystabloom behind the waterfall.
  • Toucannon - Toucannon show up on many of the bends in the course and can also be seen flying overhead at research level 3.
  • Tropius - Tropius can be found in the area between the first two sets of rapids as well as to the player's left as they approach the course's exit. At research level 3, there'll be an additional Tropius near the start of the course and a few more will fly overhead once players reach the area where the Feraligatr first pops out of the water.
  • Swampert - Players will pass to the right of some sleeping Swampert just before dropping into the final area. At higher research levels, there'll be a few in the water at various spots. If players hit all three with Illumina Orbs, they'll be able to summon the trio at the end of the course by throwing an Illumina Orb into the spot with the bubbles to the left of the NEO-ONE. There are also some Swampert in the Moonlit Cave at research levels 1 and 3.

Research Level 2

  • Arbok - At research level 2, Arbok will show up directly in front of players at the beginning of the course and once again to the player's right shortly after they drop down the first set of rapids. At research level 3, if players get the Arbok to come out of the water by hitting it with an Illumina Orb and then scanning, it will also show up by Psyduck and Ursaring. Hitting it with an Illumina Orb here will make it appear with Psyduck at the end of the course as well.
  • Wooper - Players will be able to see a Wooper meet-up with the Grookey and the Sobble near the start of the course. Another can be found in the area between the first two sets of rapids. At research level three, players will be able to summon a Wooper by throwing an Illumina Orb into a patch of bubbles near the start of the course, and doing so will cause it to show up on the back of a Tropius a little later on.
  • Quagsire - From research level 2 onwards, Quagsire can be found in a few different spots throughout the course. At research level 3, players can turn around straight after dropping down the first set of rapids to get a nice four-star shot of Quagsire enjoying itself. There's also one sleeping in the Moonlit cave.
  • Gyarados - In the area between the first two sets of rapids, players will be able to scan a huge waterfall to their right. If they throw an Illumina Orb in and hit the nearby Crystabloom, a Gyarados will show up near the waterfall. If summoned, Gyarados will then come down the final set of rapids behind the NEO-ONE shortly before players reach the end of the course.

Research Level 3

  • Ursaring - Ursaring starts showing up at research level 3 and can be found in a few different places. The first is in the area with the crying Psyduck, where it will chase the mischievous Aipom away. The second is in the same spot where Arbok washes up at research level 2, not far from the waterfall with the hidden Crystabloom. If players scan as they pass by to make a nearby Magikarp jump out of the water, Ursaring will fall in and will then show up in the area just before the final set of rapids. There's also one climbing a tree over to the left of the course's exit.
  • Venusaur - Venasaur can be found near the Tropius on the little strip of land onto which the NEO-ONE gets knocked at research level 2.
  • Drilbur - A group of Drilbur will start to appear to the player's left shortly before traveling down the second set of rapids while playing at research level 3. Players can also get them to show up at the start of the course by hitting Arbok with an Illumina Orb and then performing a scan to make it climb out the water. If players get the Drilbur to dig into the wall by using the Melody Player, they can get another one to show up by illuminating the Crystabloom before the final set of rapids.
  • Cleffa - To find Cleffa, players will first need to unlock the Moonlit Cave in the River (Night) course and then return to River (Day) at research level 3. By scanning in the area just past the Venusaur, they'll be able to access the cave and will see a Cleffa on a ledge to their left. If players then hit the Crystabloom on the right with multiple Illumina Orbs, they'll be able to get four more Cleffa to appear.
