The Aurus Island Illumina Spot is the final course in New Pokemon Snap and becomes available once players have unlocked the altar in the Ruins of Remembrance. It's relatively short when compared to some of the game's other Illumina Spots, but does provide players with their very first glimpse of a Legendary Pokemon. Xerneas isn't the only one that likes to hang out in the ruins though, as players will soon discover if they return to the course after their initial visit.

In total, there are 11 different types of Pokemon at the Illumina Spot, ten of which can also be found in the Ruins of Remembrance course. Even so, it's possible to take some easy four star photographs of at least three of the Pokemon here, which makes the Illumina Spot a great place to visit for those looking to fill out their New Pokemon Snap Photodex.

Research Level 1

  • Xerneas - Upon first arriving at the Illumina Spot, the only Pokemon that players will find is the course's Illumina Pokemon, Xerneas. It will transform into a glowing ball of light which must be hit with Illumina Orbs in order to make the Legendary Pokemon take its physical form. At research level 2, doing this in the room with the water and then hitting it with another Illumina Orb straight after will cause Xerneas to stand in front of the ancient ruins. At this point, if players wake the two Houndoom by hitting them with a Fluffruit followed immediately by an Illumina Orb, they'll take their places at Xerneas' sides and Xerneas will use Geomancy which is classed as a four star photo.

Research Level 2

  • Sigilyph - There's a Sigilyph directly in front of players when they start the course. If they hit it with a Fluffruit in the next room, it will fly into the area with the water.
  • Woobat - A group of Woobat will fly past the player shortly after they begin the course. A few more show up on the walls in the next area.
  • Eldegoss - There are some Eldegoss over by the water in the third area that players enter.
  • Chandelure - Chandelure shows up near the ancient ruins and can be made to dance with the help of Illumina Orbs and the Melody Player.
  • Golurk - Players can summon in two Golurk by hitting the Sigilyph on the left hand side of the second room with a Fluffruit and then doing so again in the room with the ancient ruins. If successful, two Golurk will fly in from the back of the ruins and photographing either of them will yield an easy four star photo.
  • Houndoom - Two Houndoom are asleep in front of the ancient ruins. If players wake them with Fluffruit and Illumina Orbs and Xerneas is nearby, they'll howl when Xerneas uses Geomancy, presenting yet another easy four star photo opportunity to players.
  • Absol - Absol shows up if Xerneas takes physical form in the area with the water.
  • Noivern - There are a couple of Noivern in the area just past the ancient ruins on the wall.
  • Natu - Shortly before the end of the course, players will be able to find a Natu sleeping in front of Xerneas. There are a few more in this area too, usually sat on top of pillars and in the tunnel behind Xerneas.
  • Umbreon - Like Natu, Umbreon can be found fast asleep in front of Xerneas towards the end of the course. Hitting any one of the three with Fluffruit will wake it and doing so will make it come closer to the NEO-ONE for a slightly better picture.
