Earlier this week, Niantic announced a new venture with Warner Bros. Interactive and Portkey Games called Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. Recognizing that some fans may be worried that the new Harry Potter game will take resources from Pokemon GO's continued support and development, Niantic released a statement on its website to ease fan's concerns. While asserting its commitment to Pokemon GO, Niantic revealed that improvements to some of the game's existing features will be announced next week.

According to Niantic, the Pokemon GO development team is hard at work on improvements to some of the game's features, but it stopped short of providing specifics. Concrete details will come next week, but again, Niantic didn't offer a specific day fans can expect to learn more about the game's future.

Besides improvements to features that are already in Pokemon GO, Niantic teased that brand new features will be introduced in 2018. Niantic didn't reveal exactly what new features will be coming to Pokemon GO in 2018, but many fans are hoping that next year will finally bring long-requested features like Pokemon trading and PvP battles to the game.

While official details on Pokemon GO's 2018 updates remain scarce, a recent acquisition by Niantic does give us an idea of what to expect. Recently, Niantic purchased the Evertoon team to develop new social features for Pokemon GO. What form these social features will take remains to be seen, but hopefully they are designed to help players assemble raid groups easier.

It's easy to see how dedicated social features could improve the Pokemon GO experience, especially when it comes to legendary raids and other tough raid battles. However, we are just speculating about how social features will be implemented into Pokemon GO, and like all the game's other upcoming updates, we will have to wait for official word from Niantic to be sure.

Pokemon GO is available now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
