As may be expected for the most hyped graphics cards in many years, the rumors are flowing fast regarding the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, RTX 3080, and the rest of the Ampere based range. The latest credible leak reveals some information about the specifications gamers can expect from the new cards, as well as backing up the staggered launch rumors. It also states that the expected RTX 30 Series naming system is not yet confirmed.

The leak comes courtesy of Wccftech, whose unnamed source has revealed that six Ampere boards are currently planned for release, with the first three reported to launch in September. The replacement for the RTX 2080 Ti is due to appear in the second half of the month, bearing 24 GB of vRAM and a 384 bit bus width, it may use the RTX 3080 Ti name, or potentially the RTX 3090 name. Also expected in the second half of September is the first replacement SKU for the RTX 2070 and Super variant, which will have 8 GB vRAM and a 256 bit bus width, believed to be called the RTX 3070.

The card expected to be called the RTX 3080 is the replacement for the RTX 2080, and the first SKU is detailed as "mid September," which is distinct from the other September dates, and may mean it launches slightly before or slightly after the RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3070. The leak describes it as having 10 GB vRAM, and a 320 bit bus width. However there is also expected to be a better equipped 20 GB version of the card, which will launch a few weeks later in the first half of October. This may be a deliberate move to outdo AMD's high-end Big Navi card, which is rumored to possess 16 GB vRAM.

Finally, there are two boards which currently have no launch date determined. These are a version of the RTX 3070 with a larger 16 GB vRAM and undetermined bus width, and the replacement for the RTX 2060, expected to be called the RTX 3060 with 8 GB vRAM and a 256 bit bus width, similar to the lower spec RTX 3070. All of the range are expected to have significant boosts in ray tracing performance over the current generation cards, a feature that AMD is also looking to focus on with its upcoming RDNA2 based Navi 2X range.

Benchmark leaks suggest the Ampere based RTX 30 Series will be a powerhouse, with up to 50% performance improvement over the current generation cards, which implies a high price point at launch. However, the inclusion of two variants of vRAM for the RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 may help make the high and mid range cards more affordable to gamers on a budget, particularly if AMD can provide strong competition with the Navi 2X cards.

With the official RTX 30 Series announcement rumored for September 9th, gamers may not need to wait much longer to know how accurate these leaks really are.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, RTX 3080, and RTX 3070 are expected to launch in September.
