For the last ten years, Minecraft has reigned supreme with millions of players and a map size so huge, creativity is almost endless. As one of the highest grossing video games of the last decade, if not of all time, Mojang's open-world sandbox IP is the ultimate rags-to-riches story when it comes to gaming. Given its popularity, it's not surprising the studio is keeping on top of updates and adding new content, and now there's a possibility that some other projects may be on the way at some point.

As spotted in a recent article by ComicBook.com, the LinkedIn profile of Torfi Frans Olafsson, the Director of Franchise Development for Minecraft, suggests there may be some new things happening related to the blocky game. While nothing has been said specifically, it's interesting that Olafsson has described their role in the company as being responsible for "conceiving new projects." It doesn't sound like much, but given that they've only been in the position since February, it suggests that there may be something, or multiple things, in the pipeline.

It's not much to go off just yet, but it may be something worth keeping an eye on. What these theoretical projects could be is anyone's guess at this stage. Given that Minecraft had the Caves and Cliffs Part 2 update last year and the developer is always tweaking and adding new things, the idea of some big, elusive project on the horizon is not totally beyond the realm of possibility. It's worth reiterating at this stage that there has been no official word about any new project in the works at Mojang, but fans may begin speculating based on Olafsson's job description.

As a video game with near infinite replay value, there's already an enormous amount that can be done and seen in Minecraft, so it's hard to imagine exactly how much further the studio can take things in the game. There were even rumors of a possible sequel going around a few years back, but these have since been quashed.

With Jason Momoa in negotiations to star in the upcoming Minecraft movie, it's clear that the game is not about to slow down in terms of its popularity. Given how long it's been out, there are some people who have practically grown up playing it. And with so many talented people still creating new and interesting constructions, it will be interesting to know what the future holds for this once independent title.

Minecraft is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
