As seen before in the previously released Max Payne 3 screenshots, the detective doesn't look all that great and has transformed from the one-time tall, dark, and handsome man into a bald, grizzled John McClane lookalike. Those first two screens were only a taste of what's to come, though.

Rockstar Games has released some ten extra Max Payne 3 screenshots for visual consumption and it looks like the Max Payne game we expect: Dark, dirty and filled with guns. Screenshots are all Rockstar has really put out so far, with the exception of some details (including the return of bullet time) regarding what Detective Payne has been up to since we last saw him.

Yes, the bald headed look will be explained during the course of the game. Judging from how some screens still show Max in a suit and tie, some of the game will take place while Max is still with the NYPD. Check out the screens below and have a look.

Graphically, Max Payne looks way better than when it was last seen during the original Xbox and PS2 days. Thanks to the RAGE and Euphoria engines utilized in Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne 3 looks like it's going to be heavy on the dark and muted colors.

As great as the game looks so far, will players be able to get back into a series that was largely just a shoot-em-up fest with story exposition here and there to keep things interesting? People might remember John Woo's Stranglehold starring Chow Yun-Fat, which, while very fun, didn't offer a whole lot of depth either.

Admittedly, it's great to see Max is still alive and well and ready to shoot more bad guys. The story of how he became a disillusioned private security contractor in Brazil and his abandoning his badge does seem interesting, but is it going to be enough to compete with many of the shooters coming out on the market?

Hopefully we'll see some gameplay when E3 rolls around in June.

Max Payne 3 releases in 2012 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
