When it comes to co-op and multiplayer gaming experiences nowadays, the focus generally seems to be on online experiences. However, there are still many developers out there providing local co-op gaming experiences, with 2022 enjoying a number of notable local co-op gaming releases so far. There are even more local co-op games to look forward to later in the year, with August 30 set to be an especially big day for fans of local co-op games.

On August 30, local co-op fans can look forward to the release of two different local co-op games. The headliner is Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed, a remake of Destroy All Humans 2 that is scheduled to launch for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed will feature revamped graphics, but otherwise should be a fairly faithful recreation of the original Destroy All Humans 2. It will also feature a full-blown split-screen mode that allows players to go through the entire campaign in co-op together.

Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed comes a couple of years after the launch of the original Destroy All Humans remake. The Destroy All Humans remake was well-received by fans for being a faithful recreation of the original, though it earned some criticism for failing to address some underlying issues found in the 2005 release. Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed's local co-op should broaden its appeal even further, and it will be interesting to see if it's successful enough to justify THQ Nordic bringing the series back with a proper brand-new release.

The other local co-op game releasing on August 30 is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection, which will be available for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection is coming out just two months after the release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, which earned rave reviews from critics.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection sounds like a dream for any old-school TMNT game fans. It includes TMNT games released from 1989 to 1993, including the original NES Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the acclaimed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 4: Turtles in Time. Not all the games in the collection support co-op, but many do, and so local co-op fans should be kept plenty busy when the collection releases at the end of the month.

Between Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed and all the games coming in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection, August 30 should be a huge day for local co-op games.
