Playdead CEO Dino Patti has revealed that they, the company behind Limbo, are working on a new IP. The independent game studio based in Copenhagen, Denmark created a best-selling Xbox Live Arcade title that received critical acclaim from reviewers with Limbo. The award-winning minimalist platformer was compared favorably to such games as Braid, Portal, and Ico, to name a few. Patti promises that fans of Limbo will like their new work but leaves only a hint for what it may be about.

"I can't tell much, but I can tell you that if you liked Limbo, it'll definitely be for you. The gameplay style you'll really like. You'll feel it's the same team who made it, but everything will be changed."

With Limbo not coming to the PlayStation 3 or PC, Playdead is toying with the idea of getting their next game into the hands of as many gamers as possible. Xbox exclusivity has its advantages but prevents gamers on other systems from experiencing their work. Patti commented on why they went with an exclusive deal with Microsoft as well as future plans for their next game release. He stated that they "used alot of money" and the exclusivity helped them "get the money back."

"We are open for everything. To be honest, we want as many people to play our games as possible. If we end up going exclusive, we may do it for various reasons, but we just want as many people to play the game as possible."

One of the possible reasons for going with Microsoft would be to avoid software piracy. Piracy could be a problem on the Windows platform and could be better controlled on the Xbox 360. Limbo's Xbox Live Arcade exclusivity helped the company recoup their cost of investment. However, with Limbo never to be ported to another platform, their next project may get a wider release.

No details have been revealed about this new IP but many expect a quality product that builds off the talent shown in their previous project. It is very nice to see indie game studios finding success and receiving enough profit from their initial release to continue their work.

Did you enjoy Limbo? Are you looking forward to Playdead's next IP?
