Sure, the DSi XL is coming in a few short months, but why not start talking about a true successor to Nintendo's immensely popular handheld. Satoru Iwata has spilled some beans on the next DS in an interview with Asashi Shimbun newspaper, detailing what Nintendo has planned for the DS' successor.

"[It will have] highly detailed graphics, and it will be necessary to have a sensor with the ability to read the movements of people playing."

Iwata wouldn't talk specifics on a release date, but at least we know what to expect. This essentially confirms that the new DS will feature motion control, just like their Wii. It also seems that Nintendo is starting to care a little bit more about graphics too by mentioning  "highly detailed graphics." Is this just relative or does it mean that Nintendo may be starting to care how high the res is in their games... not a bad thing at all if you ask me. It's not quite the Wii HD that we are all gossiping about, but it's a start.

Other news coming from Mr. Iwata is that the highly anticipated Zelda title is in fact coming this year. Your probably not going to buy into that, but that's what he is claiming for Japan anyway. We know that this Zelda title will utilize the Wii MotionPlus and will be something different from any other Zelda title we have experienced to date. We should get a peek at this title by E3 if they really plan on having the game release this year.

Also, the Vitality Sensor (that nobody seems to have a clue as to it's purpose) will be shown off in a press conference this July where we will get details on games that will utilize the new input device and what the hell it even does.

Nintendo also wants to get more partnerships going to give Nintendo DS owners a place to chill and play their games. Similar to the "Mac de DS" service in Japan at McDonalds that offers quizzes and Pokemon mini-games!

Some interesting information came out of Iwata's interview; Hopefully we will see some of the many things he talked about soon.

What do you think of the DS 2, and what games would you like to see utilize the motion control in it? Do you actually believe we will see the new Legend of Zelda this year?
