The original HTC VIVE Pro VR headset first released in 2018 and remains among the top VR headsets for those looking for a VR experience. This May 11 and 12, HTC is hosting its first-ever VIVECON to show off its new VR technology that will be available in the coming months. One item is the new HTC VIVE Focus 3 headset, specifically formulated to help businesses who use VR to train their employees. Another item is the brand-new HTC VIVE Pro 2 headset that’s full of VR upgrades for sharper images and more immersive experiences.

In an interview with Game Rant, the GM of HTC VIVE, Dan O’Brien, spoke about the new HTC VIVE Pro 2 headset and how it compares to the old HTC VIVE Pro. The newest headset has tons of new assets that make it one of the top VR headsets available. While the HTC VIVE Focus 3 is geared towards a more business and professional setting, the Pro 2 is focused on gamers and their VR experience.

New Tech in the HTC VIVE Pro 2

Like the new HTC VIVE Focus 3, the Pro 2 VR headset will feature 5k display resolution with 2.5k per eye. The refresh rate is an impressive 120 Hz made with real RGB technology for beautiful, impressive, and clear animations. Additionally, these technological upgrades minimize motion blur and the “screen door effect” that can break immersion in VR experiences.

HTC VIVE Pro 2 is also the first VR headset that’s got technology from NVIDIA and AMD incorporated to utilize Display Stream Compression. This system makes for impeccable visuals but is also backward compatible with other graphics cards. Even if the VR system from the HTC VIVE Pro looked good, odds are it’ll look even better with the VIVE Pro 2 thanks to backward compatibility.

In regards to backwards compatibility, the VIVE Pro 2 will be backwards compatible with all kinds of HTC VIVE products. Any of the previously released Trackers as well as Base Stations, Adapters, or controllers will work with the new VIVE Pro 2 VR headset. In fact, HTC is hosting a bit of a promotion for those who want to upgrade their headset in their VR setup. During the pre-order period, fans can get a discount when ordering their brand-new HTC VIVE Pro 2 headset.

Physical Construction of the HTC VIVE Pro 2

The HTC VIVE Pro 2 keeps a lot of the well-loved construction benefits from the original Pro model, including the ability to wear the headset while also wearing glasses. There’s also a fine-adjustable IPD (inter-pupillary distance) knob that allows users to adjust the pupil distance while still wearing the headset. This is a benefit compared to other VR headsets that require a lot of “check and adjust,” meaning users have to take it off, adjust it, and then try it on again to see if it’s correct. VIVE Pro 2 users don’t have to worry about that.

There’s also a well-calibrated weight balance with the Pro 2 headset along with an adjustable head strap. The HTC VIVE Pro 2 is dedicated to helping its users have the most comfortable experience possible while using the new headset. It even has 3D spatial sound and can support third-party headphones if necessary.

The VIVE Pro 2 comes as both a singular headset or as a kit. Those looking to upgrade the headset only can take advantage of the promotional sale HTC is hosting. If users would rather invest in an entire kit, that won’t be available until later in June. The kit comes with the headset, a Base Station 2.0, and VIVE controllers.

HTC VIVE Pro 2 will release on June 4.
