There's always a steady stream of new horror game releases throughout every year, and while one would think most would be concentrated around October, March might be the month to watch next year. March 2023 has yet to finalize all its new game releases just yet, but it's already shaping up to be an exceptional month for the horror game genre, with four major horror titles on the calendar.

2022 has had its fair share of great horror game releases, but it looks like 2023 is getting the train started early with its contributions to the genre. Throughout the month of March, horror game fans will have a variety of titles to look forward to, ranging from brand-new releases to remakes of some of the most beloved horror games of all time.

March 2023 is wasting no time when it comes to new horror game releases, with The Day Before scheduled to launch on PC on March 1. The Day Before is a survival game that has been described by some fans as an MMO version of The Last of Us. It tasks players with surviving in open world environments overrun with zombies. The Day Before will launch as a PC exclusive first on March 1, but it's expected to come to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X at some point down the line as well.

Reports have indicated that some of The Day Before development is being handled by volunteers, which has raised some eyebrows and led to skepticism that the game will be able to deliver on its lofty promises. With the game being built using Unreal Engine 5 and early footage looking rather impressive, the jury is still out on whether The Day Before will live up to expectations or not, but fans will find out for themselves early next week.

A little over a week after The Day Before launches, horror game fans can look forward to the remaster of Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse. Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse originally released as a Nintendo Wii exclusive in 2008, but it never released outside of Japan. The new version of the game will be aiming for launch on numerous platforms come March 9, and it will finally be available to western audiences.

Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse has players exploring an island haunted by ghosts that can be attacked using the Camera Obscura. This new version of the game boasts improved graphics and some new content for players to check out, so it should be the definitive way to experience the game. It's been a long time since a new Fatal Frame came out, and while Mask of the Lunar Eclipse isn't a totally new experience, it will still be the first opportunity many fans of the franchise have had to play the game.

Fatal Frame isn't the only classic horror franchise that will see a new entry in March 2023. On March 24, Resident Evil fans can check out the highly-anticipated Resident Evil 4 remake, which is giving the classic survival-horror game a complete makeover. The Resident Evil 4 remake is vastly improving the graphics when compared to the original game, and it's embracing a more horror-focused vibe.

Based on the Resident Evil 4 remake gameplay that's been shown so far, this new version of the game should be plenty terrifying and appeal to both new and old fans alike. Not only is the Resident Evil 4 remake one of the biggest new horror game releases in March, but it could be one of the biggest game releases of the entire year, so fans should definitely keep an eye on it.

And finally, the last new horror game confirmed for March 2023 so far is Amnesia: The Bunker, the latest entry in Frictional Games' popular Amnesia horror series. Amnesia: The Bunker is making some big changes to the series, embracing semi-open world game design and actually giving players the chance to fight back against the monstrosities tormenting them this time around. Amnesia: The Bunker should deliver the physics-based puzzles and intense horror moments that fans have come to expect from the franchise, and while it currently lacks a specific release date, the game is currently scheduled to launch at some point in March.
