A new teaser for the upcoming blockbuster Godzilla vs. Kong has dropped with the promise of more destruction and mayhem when these two meg-monsters go at it in March. The teaser, posted on Legendary Entertainments Twitter feed, shows extended fight scenes featured in previous trailers. This includes Godzilla and Kong fighting on some kind of naval aircraft carrier and in a neon-soaked city.

In both scenes, the two kaiju seem to be absolutely obliterating everything in their path. It's still fairly unclear as to why these two movie monsters are fighting, but they seem to be continuing a centuries-long war for domination. The teaser also features one of the new characters, a little girl named Jai, played by newcomer Kaylee Hottle, who appears to have a special bond with Kong. In the teaser and previous trailers, we see Jai reaching out to the giant Gorilla and attempting to communicate. Other characters have also stated in the trailers that she seems to have a special bond with the giant ape. In this teaser, in particular, we can see Jai is attempting to communicate with Kong via sign language.

This may be the key to their bond, and it's an interesting detail since, in real life, some Gorillas have been able to communicate with humans through sign language. One of the most famous instances of this was seen in Koko, a gorilla from the San Francisco Zoo, who spent most of her life at The Gorilla Foundation's preserve in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Koko became an International celebrity and was featured on the cover of National Geographic twice. Sadly, in 2018, she died in her sleep at the age of 46.

This detail also seems to further reinstate that Kong is being framed as 'the hero' in this battle. This is strange because, in the previous two Godzilla films, Godzilla (2014), and Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), the giant lizard is framed as being the good guy, a necessary evil to fight off other kaiju and protect mankind. Kong, on the other hand, has consistently been framed in a more sympathetic light in previous incarnations of the character.

This includes one of the previous films in Legendary's 'MonsterVerse', Kong: Skull Island (2017), which saw the prehistoric ape as the guardian of his home, skull island. Despite his destructive nature, he's often portrayed as being a gentle giant, who's just trying to survive in a harsh world where people are always trying to hunt him down or capture him. Hopefully, audiences will find out why exactly Godzilla has had a sudden change of heart, and who will win this epic battle when Godzilla vs. Kong comes out this March.

Godzilla vs. Kong is slated to be released simultaneously in theatres and in the US on HBO Max on March 31st, 2021.
