After Dead Rising 4 failed to meet sales expectations, there was some worry that Capcom may give up on the franchise. However, we now know that Capcom Vancouver is focusing all its efforts on the Dead Rising series, and it's coming at the expense at one of the studio's other games.

Puzzle Fighter, a Street Fighter-themed puzzle game spinoff for mobile devices that released late last year, is being shut down so Capcom Vancouver can focus on Dead RisingPuzzle Fighter will be pulled from the App Store and Google Play July 1, with microtransactions in the game already disabled. Servers for Puzzle Fighter will remain online until July 31.

In the meantime, Puzzle Fighter players can get their hands on new characters like Ada Wong, Dr. Wily, and Regina from Dino Crisis, in addition to new stages like Darminor from Red Earth and a Uroboros Laboratory from Resident Evil. Capcom is also gifting players with 10,000 gems as a way to say thank you to anyone who played the mobile game.

Dead Rising 4 Two New Difficulty Modes

While some may be disappointed that Puzzle Fighter is getting axed, at least Capcom has given plenty notice and still bothered to add new content to the game in its twilight hours. The 10,000 gem gift is also appreciated, and should let anyone who wants to see what Puzzle Fighter was all about to do so with access to as much content as possible.

Ultimately, Puzzle Fighter's demise means that Capcom Vancouver can focus its efforts on the Dead Rising franchise, as it has indicated. While Dead Rising 5 has yet to be officially announced, we know that a new Dead Rising title already exists in some capacity, as Capcom Vancouver had to reduce its scope after laying off around 20 percent of its staff a few months ago.

With Capcom Vancouver testing the mobile gaming waters through Puzzle Fighter, it's not out of the question that the next Dead Rising could be a mobile spinoff if it's not a full-fledged new entry in the franchise. No concrete details on the next Dead Rising game, whether it's a main series entry or something else, are available at this time, so fans will have to wait and see what Capcom Vancouver has in store.
