Kōshi Tachibana’s Date A Live light novel series ran from 2011-2020 as part of Fujimi Shobo’s Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint in Dragon Magazine. The light novels were illustrated by former Idea Factory character designer Tsunako. The series has inspired various video games and a handful of spin-offs alongside the long-running anime adaptation.

The Date A Live anime first aired in 2013, with a 12-episode adaptation animated by AIC Plus+ that aired during the Spring season. Production IMS then animated the 10-episode second season a year later. After a seven-year gap, J.C.Staff animated the 12-episode third season, which aired during the Winter 2019 season. Geek Toys, the studio behind the two Date A Bullet film adaptations, are taking over for the fourth season.

Jun Nakagawa (High School Fleet Movie, Date A Bullet) will succeed Keitaro Motonaga (Persona 3 the Movie 3: Falling Down, Katanagatari) as director. Motonaga directed the first three seasons of the anime as well as the 2015 Date A Live: The Movie – Mayuri Judgement film.

The main cast from the previous seasons will return to reprise their roles, including:

  • Nobunaga Shimazaki as Shido Itsuka
  • Marina Inoue as Tohka Yatogami
  • Misuzu Togashi as Origami Tobiichi
  • Ayana Taketatsu as Kotori Itsuka
  • Iori Nomizu as Yoshino
  • Asami Sanada as Kurumi Tokisaki
  • Maaya Uchida as Kaguya Yamai
  • Sarah Emi Bridcutt as Yuzuru Yamai
  • Minori Chihara as Miku Izayoi
  • Ayumi Mano as Natsumi

Akari Kageyama (Himouto! Umaru-chan’s Nana Ebina) will join the cast as Mokuro Hoshimiya. Voice actress Miyu Tomita (Made in Abyss’ Riko, We Never Learn’s Rizu Ogata) will perform the anime’s opening theme, "OveR”.

Yen Press publishes the light novels in English and Funimation licenses the anime series outside of Japan.
