Activision Could Be Developing New Crash Bandicoot Game

new crash bandicoot game rumor

A mysterious easter egg in a brand new PlayStation advertisement could potentially be teasing a new Crash Bandicoot game in the works. At this time, this is not much more than speculation, but Crash Bandicoot fans would likely welcome another entry in the franchise.

At the 0:11 mark of a recent “It’s Time to Play” commercial from PlayStation, fans can see characters of the Crash Bandicoot world competing in a race taking place in a parking garage with the infamous masks floating behind them. The only difference, however, is that fans have spotted a second mask that looks brand new to the series and never before seen in any of the previous games, leading many to wonder if a new Crash game is on the way.

Given the amount of success the Crash Bandicoot games have brought along with it, including Crash Bandicoot's remastered editions, it’s no question whether or not a new addition would ever be released, it’s just a matter of when. Activision has released a new family-friendly game every year since 2017, including Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, so a 2020 announcement would only make sense for the gaming company. Spyro Reignited accidentally leaked concept art for a new Crash Bandicoot game earlier this year, which ignited the rumors of a new game from Sony and Activision, speculatively titled Crash Bandicoot Worlds, though nothing has officially been announced as of yet.

Character artist for Toys for Bob Nicholas Kole, who has previously worked on Spyro Reignited Trilogy, jumped on Twitter to subtly acknowledged the appearance of the second mask, the white mask seen just to the right of the Aku Aku mask, leaving fans clamoring for even more information from the studio. In addition to the new commercial from PlayStation, fans have also spotted numerous buses in the UK with Crash on the front of an advertisement, hosting a slightly new look for the character.

While all of this is purely speculation, with the price of advertising, it’s not likely to be just a coincidence with all the news swirling around a new Crash Bandicoot game this past year. This could lead many to wonder if a new, official reveal could be just around the corner, especially with December’s Game Awards quickly approaching, the same awards show that Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled debuted at in 2018.

A new Crash Bandicoot game is rumored to be in development.
