'BloodRayne: Betrayal' Announced for Summer 2011

BloodRayne Betrayal

BloodRayne is a third-person action adventure game that first hit consoles back in 2002. Whilst it may not be the most memorable franchise in gaming, it certainly had its fair share of fans which spawned a comic book series and also a movie –albeit a pretty bad movie.

Majesco Entertainment has announced that developer WayForward Technologies are working on a new BloodRayne game, entitled BloodRayne: Betrayal, which will be released Summer 2011 for download via Xbox LIVE Arcade and the PlayStation Network.

For those who are unaware, in BloodRayne, gamers play as a female dhampir (a Vampire-Human hybrid) called Rayne, who works for a secret organisation called the Brimstone Society, trying to rid the world of a deadly Nazi-Vampire threat in a pre World War II era. Rayne's primary goal is to cause as much vampire bloodshed as possible, in true hack 'n slash fashion.

Fans of the franchise will be pleased to know that Rayne has been recruited for one last mission by the Brimstone Society, where she'll infiltrate a secluded castle to end an evil plot once and for all, using her signature arm blades to literally carve vampires to pieces in a several, imaginative ways. BloodRayne: Betrayal will feature 15 new levels and include plenty of new features, including a light-based gun that can that can not only be used to damage vampires, but will be required to solved puzzles in the game by reflecting sunlight. New enemies include the Blood Brute – a hammer wielding brute that explodes like a balloon upon defeat.

Majesco released a short teaser for the upcoming game, which can be viewed below.

Whilst the teaser shows very little, and leaves us with very little to get excited about, the previous two BloodRayne games were actually pretty decent. If BloodRayne: Betrayal can offer up the same entertainment as past instalments at downloadable prices(1200 Microsoft points), it is looking like gamers could be in for a bargain.

Will BloodRayne: Betrayal be on your download wish-list? Did you like the previous BloodRayne titles? Let us know in the comments.

BloodRayne: Betrayal will be released Summer 2011 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
