The latest trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever appears to have settled beyond doubt just who will pick up the mantle from King T’Challa, as well as giving some more insight on the African nation’s conflict with Namor’s Talocan.

With the film releasing just over a month from now, Marvel gave fans a Monday morning surprise on Twitter that goes further to explain Wakanda Forever’s plot, even if most of the attention will focus on what is in all likeliness the official reveal of Letitia Wright as Black Panther. While the previous trailer had teased the silhouette of T’Challa’s successor and sparked many fan theories that went as far as pitching the return of Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger as Black Panther, Ryan Coogler and Joe Rober Cole's script has adopted the comic book-accurate approach.

Nevertheless, this teaser definitely drives home the idea that Wakanda Forever is set to be a different kind of film than recent MCU releases, as Chadwick Boseman’s passing forces out the studio's comedic overtones for a more sober setting befitting the king. It’s not all about Shuri though, because Namor’s powers are finally showcased as he flies towards his Wakandan conquest, the Dora Milaje show all of their might, and there’s even a brief first glimpse of Riri Williams’ Ironheart suit — still, the footage is rather ambiguous to call out who is the real aggressor.

Naturally, seeing that slim physique will all but confirm for most that Shuri is the one to continue Black Panther legacy, as the wearer's pose doesn’t resemble any other of the likely female candidates for the role. As if that wasn’t enough, the mask bears the same face paint that Shuri has worn before in the MCU when jumping onto the battlefield, something that had previously been leaked thanks to pictures of new Black Panther Funko Pops.

Regardless of Wakanda Forever possibly giving away its biggest secret so soon, the film is rumored to be one of the MCU’s longest, meaning there will be plenty of time to sort out just exactly how Shuri ends up crafting this black and gold suit of hers. Nakia, Queen Ramonda and Shuri, have all been featured prominently in most of the movie’s promo art, so it’s fair to say all three could get a similar share of screen time to make the story come together.

Let’s not forget, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever starts with a funeral, and addressing Boseman’s death elegantly will be one of the main points upon which the film will end up being judged. From the looks of it, Marvel's Phase Four wants to go out on a high note.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is scheduled to release in theaters on November 11, 2022.
