Ever since Assassin’s Creed 2, an Assassin’s Creed title has been released every year (almost to the day). The franchise sequel was followed by Brotherhood now being followed by next week’s release of Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. While it’s not known whether bartender-turned-assassin Desmond Miles will be in any games past Assassin’s Creed 3, series creative lead Alexandre Amacio stated a month ago that Ubisoft does have a time-line they’re keeping to, and that the first trilogy has to be wrapped up by December 2012.
In an investor call today, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that a new game to follow Revelations is on the way for next year in keeping with the earlier creative deadline mentioned by Amacio. Naturally, there aren’t any details about the upcoming game yet, but the quote from Guillemot utilizes a few choice words that we would be remiss if we didn’t point out.
“There will be another great, full-fledged Assassin’s Creed title next year. It will be another major release and we will be communicating more about it in the coming months.”
The use of the words ‘full-fledged’ and ‘major’ seem to point to Assassin’s Creed 3 being the title in question, but then again that would depend on whether or not Ubisoft decides to recycle the engine and game assets from the current Assassin’s Creed games. A next-gen release isn’t a must if the story is good enough, and we’ve got a few ideas for the game that prove it. Considering that Guillemot also mentions that there will be communications in the coming months about the new game, it goes without saying that we’ll hear more about it soon.
We’re still reeling from the fact that Ezio Auditore’s story is about to end, (unless you count his appearance in Soul Calibur V), so news on what’s in store for next year can wait. Frankly, we would rather Ubisoft didn’t feel the need to rush themselves with the production of Assassin’s Creed 3.
While it would be weird to play a game taking place in December 2012 in a time past that date it would be a small price to pay for a quality product. Let’s hope that Ubisoft knows what they’re doing as we’re pretty sure we’re not the only ones invested in the Assassin’s Creed storyline.
Assassin’s Creed: Revelations will be released next week on November 15, 2011 for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. No release date has been set for Assassin’s Creed 3, but we can expect it will be released sometime in 2012. We’re going to go out on a limb and guess November.
