One month after the reveals of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro, Apple announced an all-new iPad with highly requested features. The new iPad is an entry-level model refresh with a significant design overhaul to distinguish it from the 9th generation iPad.

Apple's 10th generation iPad launches on October 26 for $449 with four colors to choose from: blue, pink, yellow, and silver. The new iPad features major design upgrades such as a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display and a USB-C port. The new iPad is among the first of Apple's products to support USB-C and the last to support the proprietary charging cable Apple users have come to know for more than a decade. The new iPad's design has flat edges to resemble previous iPad Air devices and the iPad Mini. Additionally, the front camera is also on the right side of the display when held upright.

The entry-level 10th generation iPad supportsTouch ID, a feature seen on iPhone models such as the iPhone SE 5G. Touch ID on the new iPad may be activated by pressing the power button in the top-right corner of the tablet. Apple's latest iPad also supports the first-generation Apple Pencil and the new $249 Magic Keyboard Folio. The new Magic Keyboard Folio comes with a kickstand, trackpad, and a function key row to support productivity and browsing on the new iPad.

Apple confirmed the new iPad supports Wi-Fi 6 and cellular models support 5G connectivity. However, iPad models that support both Wi-Fi and cellular cost $599, a $150 increase from the standard Wi-Fi model. Although the new iPad does not have a M2 chip, it's powered by the A14 Bionic chip found in Apple's iPhone 12 family of devices. The jump to A14 Bionic means the new iPad sees a 20% increase in CPU performance and 10% increase in graphics performance according to Apple. Furthermore, the iPad is 80% faster in machine learning tasks over the previous entry-level iPad.

The new iPad is roughly $120 more expensive than the previous entry-level model, but the new iteration seemingly delivers worthwhile performance and features for the cost. The 5G and USB-C capabilities are among some of the most requested features for new iPads, and Apple is looking to deliver on user demands such as faster connectivity and higher performance. The device is still within an affordable price range for millions of consumers, which means less people have to consider going into debt for a new Apple product.

Apple plans to support the new iPad with additional updates for iPadOS 16 following launch. The company should ensure the operating system is stable with the necessary support for the iPad's new features.
