Can it be true? After years of speculating, hoping, and wishing, rumors are resurfacing that Atari might finally be releasing a Neverwinter Nights MMO.

For years we have had great hopes, and we have been following every little hint that the franchise might get it’s first whack at the MMO market – possibly even giving games like World of Warcraft a run for their money. So far, nothing has come to fruition. However, the rumors are at it again, and they have us salivating.

It seems that at a GenCon D&D product seminar, there were rumblings of an upcoming D&D video game, but it has been so shrouded in secrecy, that this was the only small hint of something to come.

Separately, news recently hit the streets that Atari is registering domain names like crazy:

Could it be possible that Cryptic Studios is working on making this a reality?  We’ve all heard the stories about Cryptic making another MMO.  Could these two things be tied together?  Could Cryptic’s new franchise, and the rumored D&D MMO, actually be Neverwinter Nights?

With all the purchasing of domains, Cryptic’s D&D MMO rumors, and the GenCon seminar information, I think that the time for the Neverwinter Nights MMO has come! I, for one, am excited for it.

Do you remember the first time you played Neverwinter Nights, when you landed in The Forgotten Realms?  It was exhilarating.  Imagine if the MMO could match or exceed that feeling, and recapture that experience.

With existing MMO’s like World of Warcraft dominating the market, and upcoming MMO’s like Star Wars: The Old Republic set to knock the online gaming community’s collective socks off, would a new MMO stand a chance — even one as highly anticipated as Neverwinter Nights?

What do you think?  Are the rumors true? Will it be a success, failure, or vaporware?  Tell us what you think.
