A few days back, rumors were flying around regarding the future of two game studios that were partnered with Warner Bros. Games. These two studios were NetherRealm Studios and TT Games, a pair of companies that had acquired by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment in the mid-to-late 2000s. This rumor came from a series of documents that were cited during the ongoing AT&T and WarnerMedia split. A representative from Warner Bros. has recently provided a statement addressing these rumors.

These documents were first reported on by Windows Central Jez Cordon during an Xbox Two podcast, with Cordon citing that Warner Bros. Interactive considered the two companies not to be "in their scope." Cordon had also admitted that the documents didn't have any specific dates attached to them, so the validity of these claims could be outdated. However, with the statement provided by a Warner Bros. representative to Game Rant, these statements are rendered obsolete.

The original statement from WarnerMedia mentioned that all of its gaming studios would be brought along with the WarnerMedia-Discovery merger. Before this rumor had popped up, the included studios were Rocksteady, NetherRealm, and TT Games. In a statement with Game Rant, the representative addressed the possibility of Warner Bros. Games selling some of these studios, reinforcing the company's earlier statement. "NetherRealm Studios and TT Games will continue to remain a part of Warner Bros. Games, and all are included in the Warner Media Discovery Merger," said the representative.

netherrealm studios sale rumor

The original speculation as to why NetherRealm and TT Games were being considered not within the scope of WarnerMedia's efforts was based on a variety of factors theorized by Cordon. The recent Mortal Kombat film underperforming could have made the IP have less value, which is NetherRealm Studio's flagship IP. The original speculation about TT Games being sold had to do with the company's portfolio. Comprised entirely of LEGO games, these projects likely come with a hefty licensing cost to be produced. However, as the merger with Discovery and WarnerMedia's split with AT&T continue, fans can rest assured that these two studios will continue to be a part of the Warner Bros. brand.

Some upcoming games from TT Games that have been exciting fans include another exploration into LEGO franchise with LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which is currently in development. Meanwhile, NetherRealm Studios has wrapped up their post-launch content support for Mortal Kombat 11, with another project from the studio currently in the pipeline. With everything from an Injustice sequel to a Marvel game rumored, there are a lot of interesting possibilities on the table. Whatever NetherRealm's next game is, though, it seems like Warner Bros. will be helping to make it happen.
