The current era of modern blockbusters is one filled with increasingly long runtimes; audiences who would have once balked at the idea of a 3-hour film are now willingly buying tickets in droves to see films that run even longer. Recently, films like Netflix's The Irishman and Zack Snyder's Justice League have shown that in some instances, people will sit down and watch 4 hours of film uninterrupted if given the right incentive.

That doesn't mean, however, that every film can, or should, take up the entire evening, and there are plenty of avid movie buffs out there who long for a return to the days of 90-minute flicks that don't take longer than the average trip to the DMV. For those who sympathize with that perspective, Netflix UK is unveiling a special new category: "90 Minutes or Less."

As a category, it's exactly what it sounds like: a curated selection of feature films that come in under the 90 minute runtime mark. Perfect for those who want to sit down and watch something, but maybe don't have the patience for 4 hours of viewing. The category also includes sub-genres like documentaries, action films, or comedies, for those with more specific tastes.

It's one of those things that seems obvious once someone says it out loud, as there is no doubt that there are Netflix subscribers who want to watch complete films but don't always have multiple hours spare. The category was announced by the UK and Ireland branch of Netflix, but it seems that any users from around the world can browse the category by simply following the link provided on the streamer's Twitter.

On Twitter, Netflix promoted the category with a few selections like Warner Bros.' Space JamBlackfish, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Of course, subscribers will be able to browse the entire category themselves at their leisure, and it seems to include just about every film that clocks in around an hour thirty or less, although some films do cheat by a few minutes.

Regardless, it's a nice option for those who prefer their films more bite-sized, and it will no doubt get some love from people looking to watch some shorter films every now and then, and it will also likely introduce some people to films they may not have watched otherwise. Whatever kinds of films people prefer, it can't hurt to give the category a look, especially for those who already pay for a Netflix subscription
