Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is the newest installment in the Resident Evil franchise. The new Japanese CGI animated series promises a change up to the endlessly adapted game series. As the premiere for the new series nears, Netflix has shared an exciting new clip introducing Leon Kennedy in his new mission assigned from the White House.

The trailer highlights Leon's role in the animated series, as he is given his assignment in a campaign against zombies from seemingly within the White House. The clip most likely is the introduction to Leon in the series. From other trailers and clips, it is known the series takes place somewhere between Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5. The year is 2006. After a hacking incident at the White House, Leon is hired to investigate, but the White House is attacked by zombies. The aftermath of this seemingly is what this new clip is teasing.

Later in the series, trailers also promote Claire Redfield as a secondary main character. Leon will meet Claire at a welfare facility, where Claire is investigating a cryptic and dark drawing by a seemingly clairvoyant child refugee. Leon and Claire's characters originate in the Resident Evil 2 game and have remained consistent characters in the games and various film and tv adaptations.

The animation of this new adaptation is a little different than past games and adaptations. Since this series was made with CGI, the series will have a new element of hyper-realism blending the qualities of the live-action adaptations and the games. CGI of course always for movement and visuals that live-action does not.

In the clip, the human characters behave quite realistically, but the zombie shown in the beginning of the clip moves at an accelerated and unnatural speed, a zombie trait that the Resident Evil franchise shares with other zombie media such as the Dawn of the Dead remake and 28 Days Later. The added pace makes the zombies a larger threat and more of a challenge, while also increasing a feeling of stress and horror in the audience.

The new series is sure to add something different to the Resident Evil franchise. Amongst all of the new game announcements, the series returns to an earlier plotline in the game series adding to a seamless narrative to the entire Resident Evil universe.
