With dozens, if not hundreds of shows under its belt, Netflix has become a behemoth in this area. Most of its shows go on to become hugely successful and stay on the air for years. Unfortunately for the fans, that's not the case every single time. Some shows on Netflix have ended prematurely over the years, sometimes just after a single season.

There are many reasons why this can happen, from low ratings to external influences, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. But whatever the case, it's difficult to overlook that some excellent Netflix shows deserved another season, if not more!

8 The Society

The Society Netflix

Apocalyptic stories belong among the most popular sci-fi genre because they make for tension-filled stories with brave heroes who have to overcome any challenge. The Society focused on a group of young people who have to fight to survive when everybody else disappears from their town.

The characters were sympathetic and the audience was eager to learn what was going on. Despite its popularity, the series was canceled after just one season because of COVID-19 related issues. If the timing was different, the series could have easily pulled off another season.

7 I Am Not Okay With This

I Am Not Okay With This

Just like The Society, this series was canceled because of COVID-19 and the problems it brought for the production. Otherwise, a second season would have already premiered by now. The series worked with an interesting concept. Its main heroine, Syd, tries to deal with her school, her family, her unrequited crush, and also the fact that she might be developing superpowers.

The concept of I Am Not Okay With This is enough to draw the audience in and Syd's adventures keep them hooked. Unfortunately, even that wasn't enough to persuade Netflix to give the series a second chance.

6 Teenage Bounty Hunters

Teenage Bounty Hunters

Another Netflix teen-oriented show with young female heroines also used an original concept. Studying in high school is hard enough for the two sisters Sterling and Blair. Even more so once they become bounty hunters and start cooperating with the older, more experienced bounty hunter, Jenkins.

The series cleverly combined personal drama with action scenes, and both sisters were sympathetic and easy to cheer on since they just wanted to lead their own lives in a restricting society. Netflix canceled the show just two months after its premiere and unlike some miraculously revived shows that were later brought back, it's unlikely that Teenage Bounty Hunters will return.

5 Merry Happy Whatever

The cast of Merry Happy Whatever

Each year, Netflix premiers a new Christmas show in November or December, but not all of them survived long enough to get a second season. Merry Happy Whatever is one of them. Even though the show works with a well-known recipe - putting a group of different people together and seeing what will happen - it works and is often funny.

Possibly because Dennis Quaid shines as the patriarch of his family, Don Quinn, who's not happy with the boyfriend his daughter brought home for Christmas. The other actors also give solid performances and many people will find something of their family in the show.

4 Marvel's Luke Cage

The superhero show Luke Cage had better reviews than his even less fortunate cousin Iron Fist, but even that wasn't enough to get the show more than two seasons like Daredevil and Jessica Jones did. That's despite the fact that Luke's story was far from done, and could have gone in unexpected directions.

The show could have also brought in some other Marvel superheroes and it could have paved way for Luke Cage to enter the MCU, had it gone on longer like Daredevil seemed to have done for Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock.

3 American Vandal

American Vandal

Canceling this show after just two seasons feels like a lost opportunity. Unlike other shows with a clear main character that doesn't change, the series could have easily focused on different cases of vandalism in the future seasons. As such, it would have been almost impossible for it to run out of storytelling material.

Yet once again, Netflix cut off the show before it could fulfill even more of its potential. At least the main stories were more or less finished, so American Vandal didn't end with a major cliffhanger.

2 The Get Down

The Get Down

One of the older series that would have profited from more seasons also got only a single season. The Get Down is ideal not only for all fans of young heroes but also for those who love hip hop. The show's music is one of the great reasons why to watch it.

Another reason is that the characters lead interesting lives and are portrayed by talented actors. Considering the story was far from over at the end of Season 1, the creators could have returned to the Bronx and their heroes again, as the fans would no doubt want.

1 Glow

Glow

Not every show manages to combine comedy and drama and connect them into a coherent whole. Glow is an exception to this rule. The show immediately started building a fanbase once it was released. The story was captivating and was set in the 1980s like other popular series. Alison Brie in the leading role, as well as the other actors, gave excellent performances.

Even though Glow got three seasons, it could have gone on and moved forward in time as the characters still had a lot of stories to tell. Unfortunately, just like multiple high-rated shows, Glow was also canceled because of the pandemic.
