Netflix has come out with some incredibly riveting shows recently, from dystopias like Squid Game (2021) to shocking documentaries like Tiger King (2020). But Netflix also hosts a huge library of kids' films that parents can enjoy, too. Look a little closer, and there's a wide variety of movies, from early-2000’s comedies to modern classics.

Whether viewers have a preference for animation or live-action, Netflix has got loads of movies that both kids and adults can agree are worth the watch. While Netflix has plenty of classics from major film studios, they amazingly have produced some phenomenal original movies themselves. Here are the best kids' movies on Netflix today.

10 Hook (1991)

Robin Williams as Peter Pan stands in front of Captain Hook, played by Dustin Hoffman

Starring Robin Williams as a grown-up Peter Pan, this Steven Spielberg film explores what happened to Neverland after the original story ended. This time, Captain Hook (Dustin Hoffman) is out for revenge. Peter — now a soft, corporate lawyer — finds that Hook has kidnapped his children. But even after reuniting with the next generation of Lost Boys, Peter has his work cut out for him if he’s going to rescue his kids.

A great “what if?” movie, Hook expands upon the lore of Neverland in a way that both kids and adults, having seen Peter Pan grow alongside themselves, can appreciate. And if Hook isn’t enough for, it won’t be long until Jude Law brings Captain Hook to life once more.

9 Bee Movie (2007)

Barry B. Benson from Bee Movie leads an army of bees to pollinate flowers

As far as movie plots go, Bee Movie’s is pretty outrageous. A bee named Barry (Jerry Seinfeld) befriends a human, Vanessa (Renée Zellweger), and embarks on a mission that sees bees and humans facing off against each other in court.

While Barry’s and Vanessa’s friendship weirdly verges on romance (which Seinfeld himself has now addressed), these strange relationships between characters are part of what makes Bee Movie such a fun watch. Embrace the strangeness, and both kids and adults will find something to laugh about in Bee Movie.

8 Monster House (2006)

The haunted house in Monster House has come alive, with teeth on its front porch

This animated film makes for a great Halloween watch. A suburban kids' horror-comedy co-written by Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon, Monster House isn’t afraid to get a little weird. When the creepy old man across the road seemingly dies of a heart attack, three young kids soon realize that the house isn’t just haunted: it’s alive… and hungry.

Monster House’s Tim Burton-esque animation really fits the tone and atmosphere of the film, and the oddball collection of pre-teen protagonists bounce jokes off each other perfectly.

7 The BFG (2016)

The big friendly giant talks to the orphan Sophie at night, with a glow in the background

The first of two Roald Dahl adaptations on this list, The BFG, or Big Friendly Giant, is produced and directed by Steven Spielberg, making for a movie that can be appreciated by all age groups. An unlikely friendship develops when an orphaned girl named Sophie (Ruby Barnhill) is carried off to Giant Country by a (relatively) small giant played by Mark Rylance.

Sophie is plucked from the drudgery of life in an orphanage, but this comes at a price: there are several unfriendly giants looking to snack on humans. This feel-good film takes audiences to some fantastic, visually stunning places, and the motion capture performance by Rylance is stunning.

6 Peter Rabbit 2 (2021)

Peter Rabbit kicks Thomas McGregor (Domhnall Gleeson) in the face

This isn’t the typical story of Peter Rabbit. While the anthropomorphic animal characters and their adorable human clothes are all still here, Peter Rabbit 2 updates the original stories by Beatrix Potter for the modern age. On top of the usual garden-raiding antics, this film has car chases, skydiving, and more.

Voiced by James Corden, whose over-the-top acting is perfectly suited for this role, Peter leads his fellow rabbits on an odyssey across the U.K., causing mischief and mayhem wherever he goes. In fact, this star-studded cast includes such big names as Margot Robbie and Elizabeth Debicki. This is one cute film that’s sure to please all audiences.

5 Paddington (2014)

Paddington Bear in a bathtub flowing down a flight of stairs, in the movie Paddington

In this wild romp through the streets of modern-day London, Paddington (Ben Whishaw) makes a huge transition from the forests of Peru to life in the concrete jungle. Supported by an adoptive family of humans who find him at Paddington Train Station, he is nevertheless in danger from a maniacal taxidermist (Nicole Kidman) hellbent on stuffing him for a museum collection.

While Paddington certainly gets himself into a fair bit of trouble throughout, this is one film that doubles down on its polite, family-friendly messaging. There are heartwarming themes of family and friendship throughout, making this a great film for kids.

4 Kung Fu Panda (2008)

Po, Monkey, Viper, Master Shifu, and Tai Lung strike a kung fu pose in midair

Dreamworks brought us a hilarious kids film with 2008’s Kung Fu Panda. Po (Jack Black) is the average unfit, hungry panda. Though he doesn’t look the part, Po is prophesied to become a great kung fu warrior.

A total underdog in the field of martial arts, Po must train to eventually save his people from destruction. There are loads of laughs along the way, with brilliant voice acting from Black and the rest of the cast. If viewers like the film enough, they can even play as some of the characters in the game Brawlhalla.

3 Klaus (2019)

Jesper and Klaus, carrying a bag of presents, stand in a snowy forest as letters fly in the wind

A perfect Christmas movie, this Netflix original isn’t an average straight-to-streaming experience. Featuring an original story and a hauntingly beautiful art style that perfectly renders the sublime nature of the Arctic, Klaus centers around the story of Jesper, a newcomer to the frigid town of Smeerensburg.

Tasked by his father to improve the postal service in the town, Jesper soon meets a woodsman named Klaus, who has been hiding away from civilization. Together they help kickstart our modern Christmas traditions, but not without a few bumps along the way. Those who need any more convincing can check these reasons why Klaus is so good.

2 Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory (1971)

Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka, wearing his signature hat and bowtie, stands in his chocolate factory

While the kids may be more aware of the Tim Burton version starring Johnny Depp (which is also on Netflix!), it would be a crime to ignore this 1971 classic starring Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka. Though special effects certainly age over time, Wilder’s slightly unhinged, self-aware mad genius portrayal of Willy Wonka and the old school songs by the Oompa Loompas make this film unforgettable.

Even the child actors in this film do a great job. Combined with the insane imaginings of the source material’s author, Roald Dahl, Willy Wonka makes for one wild ride. So grab some popcorn and watch Dahl’s twisted vision come to life all over again.

1 Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie (2017)

Arnold, Gerald, and Helga hang onto a vine as they dangle over a cliff

Continuing the story of the critically acclaimed TV series, which ran from 1996 to 2004, Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie has the potential to hook an entire new generation of kids on old “Football Head”. Arnold, whose parents have been missing most of his life, finally gets the chance to search for them when his school wins a field trip to San Lorenzo in Central America.

Heading into the jungle with his best friend Gerald and his secret admirer Helga (who can throw a mean punch in Nickelodeon’s new game All-Star Brawl), Arnold is on a mission to unearth the truth about his missing family. Fans of the original series will love this return to form, and younger kids will have the chance to discover the magic that made the original so special.
