The popular mobile game Angry Birds hit phones in 2009 and was a smash hit sensation inspiring toys, games, and even movies. Angry Birds, the game, is about pigs stealing the eggs of birds who now have to break through their defenses to get their eggs back without cracking them. interestingly, the pigs were chosen as the bad guys because of the outbreak of the swine flu during the development, almost as menacing as the 30-50 hogs that took over gaming memes a while back. Now, the beloved birds will get a whole series on Netflix coming next year.

Netflix, popular for rebooting several popular shows with a wide fan base, is teaming up with CAKE and Rovio Entertainment to produce the show. The show was announced on Wednesday, and will officially launch in 2021. The show will be called Angry Birds: Summer Madness and have 40 episodes. Each episode will only be 11 minutes long and will take place after the timeline of the movies.

The show will follow the story of tween birds Red, Bomb, and Chuck as they spend a summer at camp. Following the original storyline, the rival summer camp across the lake is none other than the pigs. Lots of conflict and mayhem will ensue.

First peak at Angry Birds animated series on Netflix

Vile Heijari, the CMO for Rovio Entertainment explained that it was important to have animated content for the franchise. “After more than a decade in hit games, blockbuster movies, and licensed products, this is the Angry Birds' first foray into a long-form series. We’re delighted to continue our partnership with CAKE and can't wait to unveil the world of Angry Birds: Summer Madness to viewers on Netflix.”

Angry Birds: Summer Madness is expected to release sometime in 2021.
