The PlayStation Network will be hosting the NEOGEO Station! There were some rumors all the way back in June that had good sources behind them, but it's exciting to hear that more work has been put into the idea! All the classic games you may remember will be gradually added to the library, with the project opening it's doors to the public on December 21st. The games will cost $8.99 each for PS3 and $6.99 for PSP.

The NEOGEO franchise was well known to arcade systems, having hosted such series as King of Fighters, Fatal Fury and Metal Slug. They then transitioned into a rather expensive home system, and suddenly the company who developed it, SNK Playmore, wasn't quite the top dog they used to be. However, just because they're not huge in our American markets doesn't mean they don't do well internationally, with their home country of Japan providing the bulk of their software sales.

To celebrate the occasion (and their 20th anniversary), SNK Playmore has updated the games to include online multiplayer in varying Versus and Co-Op modes.

With advertising like that, you really can't go wrong. The service will be debuting with 10 games to offer fans, all of which will be equally priced as we stated earlier. Let's take a look at the first batch of offerings:

  • Alpha Mission II
  • Art of Fighting
  • Baseball Stars Professional
  • Fatal Fury (PSP 12/21)
  • King of Fighters '94
  • League Bowling
  • Magician Lord
  • Metal Slug (PSP 12/21)
  • Samurai Shodown
  • Super Sidekicks

If you're into classic games, or just a fan of any of the above, the price is really hard to resist to take a little trip back in time. There's currently no word on what future offerings will be brought to the service, or when, but we'll keep you tuned as more news comes from the development.
