New 'Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit' Trailer Details Cars and Autolog

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Trailer Autolog

A new Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit trailer has managed to outrun and evade the cops and land on the internet for our viewing pleasure. In this trailer, dubbed "Hot Pursuit Uncovered" Criterion and EA show off some more hot cars, some of the games 100+ miles of road, and detail some of the online functionality provided via the game's "Autolog" feature. And the trailer manages to do all this while still illustrating how racing games can get your heart pumping.

This trailer hits on all cylinders (pun intended) and could easily double as a trailer for the next Michael Bay action movie, and I mean that in a good way. The trailer is pretty hot, check it out:

While I have not been too high on the Need for Speed franchise for a bit now (even if Shift was a pretty solid entry), I have been a fan of Criterion and their work on Burnout. Burnout Paradise still ranks as one of my favorite racing games ever, and likely lands pretty high on my general "favorite games" list too. And from what I have seen from the trailers (previously released and this new one), it looks like Criterion is taking and building upon a lot of what I liked about Paradise and adding it into the fun world of Hot Pursuit.

The wreck in the beginning of the trailer definitely gave me that old Burnout feeling, and the way Autolog appears to keep everything connected and updated looks like it could serve as the carrot at the end of the stick to keep me driving around the 100+ miles of in-game road for a good bit of time. And that is without even mentioning the cars. Some of the cop car versions of the cars in this trailer look downright mean. While I also like games like Forza and Gran Turismo, something about zooming around turns at impossible speeds, causing crashes, and generally blowing stuff up is hard for me to resist. And I do not think I will be missing any kind of "story" mode if the game delivers the way it implies it can -- with fast and vicious racing action.

What do you Ranters think? Does this trailer get your pumped and excited for Hot Pursuit's release? Does Autolog look like the feature that could keep you gaming for hours? Let us know in the comments below.
