Need for Speed is one of the largest racing video game franchises in the world. For nearly thirty years, Electronic Arts has pushed the limits of racing simulators in all aspects, from gameplay to vehicle customization. Need For Speed Unbound is the most recent installment in the franchise and comes with a stacked roster of vehicles, new and improved game modes, online multiplayer, and more in-depth character creation.

Players can dive into the massive open world the game has to offer, obtain their favorite vehicles, and take them up against some of the fiercest competition the game has to offer. Among the roster of cars available in Need for Speed Unbound, there are plenty that earn their weight in gold for their performance or unique design. However, some of the vehicles in Need for Speed Unbound fall short when compared to the amount of in-game currency needed to purchase them, leading many players to brand them a waste of money.

1 BMW M1

There are multiple iterations of BMW vehicles available in Need for Speed Unbound. In no way, shape, or form are BMWs poor vehicles that can't cut it in the dog-eat-dog world of street racing. Unfortunately for the M1, however, there are a plethora of other BMW models available that can measure up to it without breaking the bank.

The BMW M1 cost a whopping two-hundred sixteen thousand and five hundred dollars. For half as much, players could settle for the BMW M4 Coupe and put the money they save into modifying the insides of the vehicle.

2 Chevrolet C10 Sidestep Pickup

A wide range of Chevrolet vehicles can make a significant impact on the street both in performance and presentation. The C10 Sidestep may have some interesting visual customization mods but it doesn't have much else going for it, which leaves it lacking next to more competitive choices in Need for Speed Unbound.

Stat-wise, the Sidestep does not possess particularly impressive top speeds or handling stats and would most like serve as temporary eye candy whose appeal would fade soon after purchase. Granted, the C10 Sidestep only costs ten grand to purchase, but that's for very good reason.

3 Honda NSX R

The Honda NSX R is a fair choice in Need for Speed Unbound as long as it's not compared to the other models available. For nearly one hundred grand of in-game currency, players will shovel more money into upgrade after upgrade and still be left with a sub-par ride with underwhelming handling and inferior top speed for the cost.

However, for a fraction of the price, players have an endless amount of options that will better suit their needs and earn their investment back at the same time. The Nissan Skyline GTR, one of the best cars to race in Need For Speed Unbound, would be a better pick for a long-term ride than this unfortunate model.

4 Lotus Exige S

The vehicles made by Lotus are celebrated for their light chassis and intricate designs. However, more often than not, the Lotus vehicles leave much to be desired especially compared to their cost. Sadly, the Lotus Exige is no different.

For a hefty seventy-four thousand of in-game currency, players can enjoy coming in third in racing events until they can afford to put even more money into a car that struggles to meet the benchmark for acceptable performance. The Lotus may look like a strong contender from afar, but once on the track, the differences between higher-performing vehicles will stand out.

5 Volvo Amazon P130

Some players will have niche vehicles in their collections simply for visual appeal. Classic can look quite charming with a candy paint job and body modifications, after all. While the Volvo Amazon is certainly a classic, taking it outside for a Sunday spin around the block serves very little use in Need For Speed Unbound.

There are dozens of things in-game to throw money at, such as Garage upgrades, side betting at events, and even additional customization options. The nineteen thousand dollars needed to purchase the Amazon can therefore be put to much better use.

6 Pagani Huayra BC (2017)

There are many would-be exotic vehicles in the market that hold their weight in name only. More often than not, a pricey exotic is just a lesser imitation of more well-crafted vehicles available. The Pagani Huayra is one of those vehicles, as although the Huayra may look nice alongside the visual effects in the game, it does not excel in any aspect compared to others in its class.

Players will need to pull together one-point-five million just to get their hands on this exotic roadster that takes six seconds to get from zero to sixty. Other vehicles from Lamborghini and Ferrari have both similar appearances and superior performances for nowhere near the cost.

7 Ford Mustang GT Convertible 2018

Ford has a prominent legacy when it comes to the cars they manufacture and their performance. The responsiveness and power available will shock players stepping behind the wheel of one of their machines for the first time.

There are quite a few Ford models available in Need for Speed Unbound, but perhaps an impotent addition to the roster of the game would be the GT Convertible model of the regular Ford Mustang GT. These two vehicles do not differ much in stats and look nearly the name visually. Players will be swapping out tops and paying less in the process for this model over its predecessor.

Need For Speed Unbound is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC
