Recent trailers for the game have showed off the title's upgraded gameplay on next-gen consoles and updates to the MyTeam mode. Now, 2K Sports' newest trailer shows off the updated MyCareer mode highlighted by updates to the game's open world, The City.

The newest entry in 2K Sports' popular NBA 2K franchise releases this Friday and fans of the 22-year-old series already know plenty about the upcoming title. 2K Sports previously announced that the popular MyCareer mode would feature an overhauled open-world quest system and plans for the game to feature a dynamic soundtrack. The newest trailer, posted to Twitter by popular 2K digital marketing director Ronnie 2K, showed off the open world city that will be featured within NBA 2K22's MyCareer mode. The City debuted in NBA 2K21 on next-gen consoles and this year's title is building on the framework the previous title built. The trailer showed off several clips from MyCareer's story as well as the previously announced quest system, taking quests from various NPCs throughout the city.

The trailer also showed off a number of different activities in the City besides basketball for players to participate in. Some clips from the trailer show the player character taking part in a fashion show, a bicycle race, and recording music among others, though not much of the activities' actual gameplay was seen. Last year's iteration did not allow female players into The City, so it remains to be seen whether that will change in this year's entry.

Story modes within sports games have become the norm for many of the biggest franchises in recent years. Career modes like Madden NFL's Face of the Franchise and NHL's Live the Life have allowed players to take control of their own player throughout their road to being a professional athlete. NBA 2K was one of the first franchises to feature a full-fledged story with its MyCareer and the newest title's updates are primed to improve on the popular game mode.

NBA 2K22 will release on September 10th for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch.
