The number of demands placed on the point guard position in NBA 2K22 is genuinely staggering. They are expected to be the fastest player, the best dribbler, and the ball passer on the entire team. To even be recognized as average, they also have to shoot threes with the best of them, slash inside for layups, and generate steals.
Thanks to guards like Russel Westbrook, they also have to collect rebounds against centers over a foot taller than themselves. The point guards that do the best job of all of this in NBA 2K22 deserve a ton of recognition for their abilities, especially at a time when most analysts believe the position has never had more talent at the same time.
10 Ja Morant - 85 OVR
Memphis has suddenly, but not magically, become an exciting team to watch. Morant won the Rookie of the Year award last year and solidified his case as a top-ten talent among point guards in a league full of astounding players at the position.
Morant is a well-rounded player who can do a bit of everything, which is more important to the point guard position than any other. He stands to grow as a player, which could put the Grizzlies in title contention sooner rather than later.
9 Jrue Holliday - 85 OVR
The Bucks hadn't been impressive for a long time and Giannis Antetokounmpo could play at an MVP level and still not get the team over the hump. The addition of Jrue Holiday was just the ticket for Milwaukee, who rewarded the team's trust with an almost immediate championship.
The most impressive part of his game is how much of a problem he is on the defensive end. Always a threat to steal the ball and get a hand up in the face of a three-point shooter, he neutralizes some of the game's best talent.
8 Shai Gilgeous-Alexander - 86 OVR
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was part of the Paul George trade a few years back, sending him from the Clippers to the Thunder. It could be a move L.A. will deeply regret. Before the tear to his plantar fascia, Gilgeous-Alexander was on pace to make an all-star team and hit several clutch shots for OKC.
The Thunder have a lot to be excited for, as that trade netted them five first-round picks. Building a team is always difficult, but when they know their point guard is talented and one of the best in the league, that's a huge part of the equation already solved.
7 Russell Westbrook - 86 OVR
As a guy who seems to average a triple-double every season he plays lately, the 86 OVR on Russell Westbrook is unquestionably low. His rebounding, passing, and scoring are not only on-point, but consistent.
Some are concerned about his ability to blend with the Lakers, who expect the point guard to be a background to superstars Anthony Davis and LeBron James. But Westbrook is chasing a title and will likely take whatever role he needs to take in order to get a ring on his finger.
6 Trae Young - 89 OVR
When it comes to pure scorers, few can boast the chops that Trae Young does. He carried Atlanta well past their expectations last year thanks to his tremendous speed and accuracy. To top it off, he's not afraid to share the ball either, getting an A+ rating for his playmaking ability.
His defense leaves a lot to be desired, getting a D+ on the perimeter and a dreaded F on the inside. His offense will make up for his defense most games. The Hawks also believe he will improve this upcoming season, which could make his already great OVR rise higher as the season continues.
5 Chris Paul - 90 OVR
Chris Paul has had a career that threatens to take records away from even the mighty John Stockton. As a token for trades for the past several years, the Suns finally stepped in and built a team around him. This investment led them all the way to a championship series.
The assist and steal totals speak for themselves, but opponents too often forget his accuracy from every part of the court. For an undersized player, he's had no problem getting inside and making fools of centers that try to swat away his shots from underneath the basket.
4 Kyrie Irving - 91 OVR
If somebody were to design a pure point guard, they might very well make Kyrie Irving. He's often cited as the best dribbler of the era, perhaps of all time. And his passing abilities always improve the team around him when he takes the court.
The issue is keeping him healthy enough to take the court. The Nets are the de facto favorite to win the title if Irving isn't injured. Keeping him healthy and happy will be a priority for Brooklyn fans next year as they look to make a deeper playoff run.
3 Damian Lillard - 94 OVR
Statistically, Damian Lillard is a force to be reckoned with, putting up monster numbers regardless of how the cast of characters around him changes. The Trailblazers struck gold when they found this incredible talent.
But the best part of Lillard's game is his ability to come up in the clutch. In do-or-die moments, no player, at any position, has been better with the ball in their hands than Lillard has. If game-saving shots were a statistical category, he'd be an undisputed 100.
2 Luka Doncic - 94 OVR
As the cover athlete of the game, it should surprise no one that Luka Doncic is ranked so highly; after last season, basketball fans might actually have a case to say that he's ranked too low. In addition to his A+ mid-range shooting and playmaking, he's built to be one of the best dunkers in the game.
Doncic has no glaring hole in his game. As a young talent, veterans will be trying to size him up in the offseason, seeing if they can find some way to beat him, either on offense or defense. If not, Doncic will be on this list for the next decade.
1 Stephen Curry - 96 OVR
Anybody looking to make the best three-point shooter build would do well to model their entire game off of what Steph Curry does. There is simply no one better, in all of NBA history, at hitting ridiculously long-ranged shots.
Terrifyingly, Curry may even be better this year than in years past, since a slew of badges for shooting bombs off of the dribble have been added. He also gets an A+ grade as a playmaker too, so doubling up to try and slop him usually results in an open man getting a free shot on the basket.
