2K Sports has announced massive upgrades for NBA 2K21 on next-gen consoles for the past few weeks. The next-gen version of NBA 2K21 will feature WNBA MyPlayers, new MyPlayer builds, and now, 2K Sports has just announced that a huge area called "The City" will replace the Park.

The City in NBA 2K21 will be much larger than any previous 2K neighborhood, and will feature skyscrapers, tons of basketball courts, and prominent areas to discover. All players will start their MyPlayer career in the Rookieville area, where they will test their skills to unlock the rest of The City. Once unlocked, players will discover that one of the most fan-favorite NBA 2K features has returned.

Affiliations are officially back in the next-gen version of NBA 2K21. There are four Affiliations MyPlayers can join and each Affiliation has their own area of The City with basketball courts and a warehouse for MyPlayer progression. Players will be assigned to an Affiliation upon leaving Rookieville and can join the Beasts of the East, the South City Vipers, the Western Wildcats, or the North Side Knights. Once in an Affiliation, players can raise their rep on home courts, or take on challenges, shop or wander the streets of The City.

A large, brightly lit building called The Event Center is located in the middle of The City. The building features courts covered in LED lights for dynamic colors and videos to match the event taking place. There are also special mini-games and missions players can take on while discovering The City. Hoops are scattered throughout the streets and players can grab their basketball to shoot around and earn some VC and experience. Much like an RPG game, there will be NPC's with exclamation points above their heads offering missions that range from challenging the best players in warehouse games to completing 3 vs. 3 games.

While it appears Swag's and the NBA store are not returning, many new stores are taking their place. Players can shop at the official Converse, New Balance, Pumas, Nike, Jordan and Adidas store for some shoes or clothes, or head over to the new Alter Ego, Drip Brothers, or Embellish store for the more stylish neighborhood clothes. Each Affiliation will also have their own store where players can grab Affiliation-branded clothes and some wacky limited-time options.

The City is one of the many improvements for NBA 2K21 on next-gen, and has many different areas to explore and basketball courts to play on. Players will have to explore each area carefully, because according to 2K developers, there are secrets to discover including a special person who will teach players new moves. Along with the many features of The City, players will discover that Affiliations have Mayors who represent each team with videos, playlists, designs, and uniform selection. Every six weeks, a new mayor from the community is selected and throughout their term, tournaments are held to crown the king of The City.

NBA 2K21 is available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One. It will release on Xbox Series X/S on November 10th and PlayStation 5 on November 12th.
