The release date for NBA 2K21 is coming up fast, and fans are getting a lot of exciting news about the upcoming pro basketball-themed game. The NBA 2K21 demo is coming August 24 for PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, and the recent reveal that current-gen progression for MyTeam will carry over to next-gen systems is also something fans can look forward to.

MyTeam is a versatile game mode that has a lot of fun options for fans of the franchise, and NBA 2K21 fans will be able to enjoy building their own teams of both current and former NBA players on the current generation of consoles and the next. This includes all progress in the mode, like VC, pulled cards, and tokens.

This is great news for people who want to play NBA 2K21 on PS4 or Xbox One, and want to also be able to play their games with saved progress if they upgrade to PS5 or Xbox Series X. However, it's important to note that progress will only carry over to consoles in the next generation in the same family of systems, so PS4 players can't bring their progress to Xbox Series X or Xbox One players to PS5.

MyTeam is also getting a Limited Mode and a revamped Unlimited Mode, with the former available all weekend and played in championship rings, and the latter made up of nine rings that the player can climb through to reach the top. Playing on MyTeam effectively requires strategizing, and knowing that players won't have to restart all their progress if they upgrade their console will save a lot of people a ton of time and effort, even if it won't save them money for the next-gen NBA price hike.

The mode is also getting a feature called "The Exchange," where players can trade their MyTeam cards to maximize their teams. The game will also get Seasons that last all year long and give players plenty of time to utilize the teams they've built. Overall, MyTeam is getting a lot of great new features that players will be able to play with on multiple consoles.

It's important to note that players can't just use a PS4/Xbox One version of NBA 2K21 for the next gen, unless they've purchased the Mamba Forever Edition for $99.99.

NBA 2K21 releases September 4 on PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One and mobile devices, followed by PS5 and Xbox Series X at a later date.
