It's never been a secret that the Nintendo Switch was getting an NBA 2K game, but fans weren't sure if it was going to be NBA 2K18 or a spinoff, like many of the sports titles released for the Wii. Today 2K Sports confirmed that the Nintendo Switch is in fact getting NBA 2K18 later this year, but it's unclear which version of the game it will be receiving.

As is typical of sports games, NBA 2K18 isn't leaving last-generation consoles behind, with a planned release on PS3 and Xbox 360 as well as PS4 and Xbox One. Since the Nintendo Switch is not as powerful as the PS4 or Xbox One, it's possible that the version of NBA 2K18 for Switch will be a port of the last-gen version of the game.

Even if the Switch version of NBA 2K18 is the same as the last-generation version of the game, it should still offer the same amount of content. While possible differences between the current- and last-generation versions of the game are unknown at this time, we do know that there will be parity when it comes to the game's two special editions, at least.

NBA 2K18 Officially Announced for Nintendo Switch - Bulls

Along with revealing that NBA 2K18 is coming to the Switch, 2K Sports also detailed the game's $100 Legend Edition and $150 Legend Gold Edition. Both special editions come with early access on September 15th, a Shaquille O'Neal poster, in-game currency, and special in-game items, but the Legend Gold Edition has the added benefit of a lenticular print.

As revealed by the poster, the special editions of NBA 2K18 are themed after NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal, who will be featured prominently in the game when it releases later this year. His inclusion will actually mark Shaq's second appearance in a Nintendo Switch title, as it was revealed a couple of weeks ago that Shaq-Fu: A Legend Reborn would also be making its way to Nintendo's latest console.

With Shaq-themed special editions and a Nintendo Switch release, this year's NBA 2K18 should have fans excited. Expect 2K Sports to reveal more information on the game leading up to its release, including what game modes will be included and which NBA star will grace the game's cover.

NBA 2K18 will launch on September 19th for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
