The following contains spoilers for Naruto: Sasuke's Story - The Uchiha and the Heavenly Stardust Chapter 1, by Masashi Kishimoto and Jun Esaka, translated by Mr. Underhill available in English from Viz Media.

Fans' beloved Naruto manga made its return with the adaptation of Sasuke Retsuden, a novel based on his adventures in the search for the Sage of Six Paths. Naruto Uzumaki, the protagonist of the series, isn't at the center of this story, as is evident from the title of the manga. In his place, Sasuke takes the role of the protagonist of the story and it is made quite clear from the very first page.

Naruto fans have been waiting for a story like this for years. Seeing their beloved characters make a return again in the manga that is actually quite promising is certainly very exciting. The first chapter of Sasuke Retsuden proved to be very intriguing and, while it wasn't action-heavy, the plot seems to be very exciting.

Sasuke In Redaku

The very first chapter of the story made it quite clear that Naruto Uzumaki is not well. Despite being an incredibly powerful shinobi and the strongest in the entire world, Naruto is still susceptible to illness, just like every other human. Sasuke explains that he seems to have contracted a very dangerous illness that is also life-threatening. Curiously, the Sage of Six Paths, Hagoromo Otsutsuki, also suffered from the same disease at one point in his life. The cure to this lies in Redaku City, which Sasuke visits in order to save his friend.

Immediately after getting there, it is made known that this city is one that doesn't get all that many visitors. In fact, it is said to have been cut off from the rest of the nations surrounding it years ago, meaning the Sage of Six Paths being here isn't as likely. Despite that, Sasuke's hunt continues and he eventually runs into a girl named Lyla, and her mother Kail. Thankfully for him, they end up providing some clues to what he wants, and he immediately realizes that the place that he seeks is an Observatory named Tatar.

Gail and Layla seem to be quite crucial to the plot here. It is through them that Sasuke learns that the Sage of Six Paths once stayed in the Redaku Observatory. Having no other choice, Sasuke gets into the observatory and finds himself surrounded by several prisoners. For now, there seems to be no mark of the Sage of Six Paths. In fact, no mention of him has been made there just yet, however, the plot is certainly going to get more intriguing as the story moves forward. At the observatory, Sasuke is, clearly, head and shoulders above the rest. He even gets attacked by prisoners and is able to defeat every single one of them without even trying.

While normally, this would get him into trouble, the guy in charge, Zansul, comes to his aid and lets him off. That said, he gives a warning to Sasuke, which is certainly something that the story will tackle moving forward. The fans also got to see Meno, a powerful beast that patrols the gates of the Observatory. These gates are not manned at all. Zansul's beast, Meno, patrols the gates alone and anyone who attempts to escape is killed on the spot, as was the case with one of the prisoners who tried just that.

The Sage Of Six Paths

Naruto Uzumaki and Rikudo Sennin

Clearly, Sasuke Retsuden chapter 1 focuses heavily on the Sage of Six Paths. Sasuke is looking for the traces of this legendary figure in an attempt to cure his friend's illness. However, having met Zansul, it is quite clear that his mission won't be as easy as it seems. Darker secrets lurk in the Observatory; the only one who can get to the bottom of it is Sasuke. Meanwhile, in Konoha, Naruto's illness seems to be getting worse by the day and Shikamaru emphasizes the fact that his life is in danger. The fate of the world currently rests in Sasuke's hands, however, his job won't be easy with the likes of Zansul and many other forces in Tatar Observatory. That said, Sasuke certainly isn't going to be alone.

As fans know, he will be joined on this mission by his wife, Sakura, who might make her appearance in the next chapter. The two will get much-needed exposition as a couple and that is certainly something that excites the fans a lot. Together, they will get to the bottom of the mysteries that are currently in Tatar Observatory. The secrets of the Sage of Six Paths will also be revealed in this story with time and ultimately, Naruto's disease will be cured. Before fans get to that point, however, there is quite an enjoyable journey to uncover as Sasuke treads a rocky path.
