Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is rumored to have cast Namor in the upcoming sequel. Narcos: Mexico star Tenoch Huerta is supposedly taking on the mantle of the long-anticipated character.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is the upcoming sequel to Marvel's Black Panther film, which starred the late and talented Chadwick Boseman in the titular role. The sequel will follow the events of the previous Marvel movies while existing in its own universe, so to speak. Fans, creators, and all in between have been debating as to how the legacy of both the superhero and the actor who portrayed him should be honored moving forward. Some say they should recast the role, others think T'Challa's sister should take up the mantle, and there are also those who think the role should forever be unfilled.

The Illuminerdi first reported that Huerta will supposedly play Namor, who is an Atlantean with superhuman strength as well as the ability to fly. For those unfamiliar, think of Namor as a Marvel take on DC's Aquaman, similar to how Marvel has Hawkeye and DC has Green Arrow. Namor is known for having ties with the Fantastic Four, starting a war with Wakanda in a spin-off series, and also for being able to fight the Hulk.

Namor Black Panther

There's no telling if we'll see any of those events in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but just bringing in Namor will open the door to plenty of opportunities to bring in multiple characters in the Marvel Universe. Namor is often considered a mutant, which means he also has ties to the world of X-Men. The sky is the limit for what they can do with this character, but Marvel Studios has remained coy with regards to how it plans to introduce the X-Men to the MCU.

It'll be nice to have a new superhero enter the ever-growing Marvel universe. Having someone as powerful as Namor will be extremely helpful since some of the Avengers are gone and they'll need all the help they can get if they ever plan on taking on the long-anticipated Dr. Doom.

If these rumors are true, it'll be nice to have Namor in this upcoming sequel. However, let's hope he doesn't take away from the people of Wakanda like Danai Gurira's Okoye or T'Challa's legacy. If they strike a nice balance, it'll be a good way of honoring the past while opening doors for the future.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 8, 2022.
