Apple TV+ comedy series Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet was forced to scrap its original season two scripts because of the pandemic. The second season of the critically acclaimed series is set to drop on the streaming platform this May.

Rob McElhenney, who is best known for playing Mac on the long-running FX series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, co-created, executive produces, and stars in Mythic Quest. McElhenney created the project alongside Megan Ganz and his It’s Always Sunny co-star Charlie Day. The workplace comedy follows his character Ian Grimm, an egotistical creative director who runs a popular game called Raven's Banquet. The large ensemble cast includes David Hornsby as David Brittlesbee, Charlotte Nicdao as Poppy Li, Danny Pudi as Brad Bakshi, and F. Murray Abraham as C.W. Longbottom.

McElhenney recently told Comic Book Resources that production was forced to alter their Mythic Quest season two plans because of the pandemic. “It was miserable. We were devastated,” said the 44-year-old actor, while adding, “We had just worked for months, and we realized the world is different now and we can't go shoot this season. Over the break, we wrote an entirely new season, and that's what we shot." Hornsby teased the upcoming season of Mythic Quest will be different than the first, as side characters like Sue and Carol will have larger roles.

The cast of Mythic Quest

Mythic Quest's season one finale saw Ian provide overtime for his disgruntled staff and convince corporate to rehire David. The episode concluded with the stubborn boss promoting lead engineer Poppy to Co-Creative Director. Over the past year, two standalone specials titled “Quarantine” and “Everlight” have been released. “Quarantine” focused on how the staff was dealing with the pandemic and was shot remotely with computers and iPhones. The latest special was released last month and dealt with the ramifications of the staff finally returning to the office.

Mythic Quest isn’t the only comedy series that will be returning to Apple TV+. This July, the second season of Ted Lasso will premiere on the streaming service. The Golden Globe-winning series centers on an American football coach who is unexpectedly hired to manage an English Premier League team. Ted Lasso stars Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Jeremy Swift, Phil Dunster, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, Nick Mohammed, and Juno Temple. Last October, the series was renewed for a third season.

While the series will soon premiere, it hasn't been smooth sailing for the Mythic Quest production. Over the course of filming since the pandemic truly hit North America, a number of crew members tested positive for COVID-19, forcing the production to shut down for a time and causing conflict with the Mythic Quest creator.

The second season of Mythic Quest will premiere on Apple TV+ on May 7.
