While there have been discussions about adapting Cyan Inc.'s iconic mystery adventure game Myst into a TV series for services like Hulu for years, recently the project has made big steps forward. The show's developer, the Village Roadshow Entertainment Group, has hired Ashley Edward Miller to write the adaptation according to an exclusive report by Deadline Wednesday.

Miller has a decent amount of experience under his belt, from penning the screenplays of X-Men: First Class and the MCU's Thor in 2011 to producing and writing on multiple episodes of J.J. Abrams' sci-fi horror drama series Fringe according to the Internet Movie Database (IMDb). The latter credit certainly seems to mesh well with a deep-cut mystery experience like Myst.

That said, the adventure puzzle game deserves a strong adaptation given its storied history as one of the best-selling PC games of all time. Myst has gone on to inspire many, including Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser.

While it would be one of the more high-profile games befitting the medium of television, Myst is by no means the only video game adaptation in production. Earlier this year Naughty Dog announced it is working on a show based on The Last of Us with HBO.

A Myst TV series is currently in development.
