The following article contains light spoilers from Season 6 of My Hero Academia, currently streaming on Crunchyroll. There are bound to be some top-notch individuals emerging from the greatest Hero Academy in the world; however, Class 1-A in particular is bursting with exceptional talent and enough power to render even a few Pro-Heroes speechless.

The fan favorites have essentially been determined by now, based on their Quirks and personality traits, but sadly there is one individual who often falls through the cracks, left forgotten or sidelined as a support Hero. Mezo Shoji does not receive the credit he is due for having one of the strongest and most versatile Quirks out of his classmates, with an all-around application on the battlefield and enough stamina to form a one-man army all by himself.

Shoji's Multifaceted Quirk

My Hero Academia Best Heteromorphs Mezo Shoji

Dupli-Arms is a transformative mutation with a range of applications that can be adapted to most situations and does much more than simply bestowing Mezo Shoji with additional limbs. While a collection of arms certainly has its perks, Shoji does not always have to grow hands at the end of these protrusions but can choose to replicate practically any other biological structure he wants (minds out of the gutters, people!) The nominated body part is not an exact clone, as it possesses enhanced abilities and heightened senses, such as increased auditory perception or visibility (with a 360-degree range of vision.)

Shoji's senses are so keen that he arguably outperforms even Jiro's incredible audio sensitivity, and is quite capable of pinpointing Toru Hagakure's location based on sound alone. Not all of his tentacles have to hold the same body part, meaning he can utilize several superhuman senses simultaneously, fulfilling a much broader scope of roles. This skill can almost match Ragdoll's (or rather, Shigaraki's) Search Quirk in terms of being a reconnaissance asset, as Shoji can gain valuable information using sight, sound, scent, and more, making him one of the most difficult heroes to catch unawares.

Battle Ready Shoji

While Shoji is often cast in the support role, his Quirk has an effective hands-on application that is perfect for combat, too. This youngster already possesses remarkable strength, which is only heightened by the addition of more muscular appendages, turning Shoji into a total powerhouse. During the Grip Strength section of the Quirk Apprehension Test, Shoji blows everyone out of the water by generating 540kg of force with just one arm, seemingly effortlessly (imagine what applying that to multiple appendages could produce!)

Each of these athletic limbs can be individually manipulated, offering a relentless downpour of powerful strikes from a single source with a move called Octoblow, applied with enough intensity to incapacitate most adversaries. If this is not enough, Shoji can also invoke his OctoExpansion ability to create a colossal fist to play with (which Spinner can testify to how potent this particular punch is!) This grip strength could also be used to incapacitate an enemy by simply holding them in place, with the potential to "handcuff" several opponents simultaneously.

If Shoji equips himself with multiple mouths (which would surely have some kind of sound-producing enhancement; if following the trend), the young Hero theoretically should be able to produce a voice-based attack similar to Present Mic's. His scent deduction could rival that of Hound Dog; while he is fast enough to outrun an uninhibited Dark Shadow and one of few capable of catching up with the elusive Himiko Toga who can also nimbly outmaneuver the quickest kid in Class 1-B, Pony Tsunotori. Even if it may not have as much reach as Kamui Wood's Quirk, Dupli-Arms significantly increases the young man's mobility; and Shoji's appendages seem less likely to break as the wooden Hero's extensions, arguably making them more reliable during combat.

The Webbed Wonder

My Hero Academia The Most Underrated Hero in Class 1-A Shoji

When Shoji's Dupli-Arms is activated, a strange phenomenon occurs whereby his multiple appendages cause a syndactyly-type effect, as they are interlocked between skin-like webbing, for which the Hero-in-training has some ingenious applications. Despite his muscular build, Tentacole has found a way to use his webbed arms as a bizarre set of wings, capable of comfortably gliding through the air. Although his power of flight may not be the fastest, some simple equipment (such as some lightweight thrusters) from Mei Hastume could very likely fix that issue.

Alternatively, Shoji has discovered how to create a turtle shell of sorts on his back, with the capacity to hold a couple of allies within its interior (granted they are small enough to fit.) This skin tissue appears to be robust enough to deflect basic attacks and effectively shelters Tsuyu and Minoru during The Cavalry Battle, whom Shoji effortlessly carries around for most of the tournament. The same concept could be applied to search-and-rescue missions, where helpless civilians could be safely carted out of danger; something the Wild Wild Pussycats or Thirteen would find significant value in.

Sidelining Shoji

My Hero Academia The Most Underrated Hero in Class 1-A Shoji and Deku

All the best heroes are accompanied by a tragic backstory and Shoji's traumatic past (which is significantly more severe than Deku's childhood) makes him a great candidate for the role. So why does Shoji get sidelined so often? He has shown all the personal characteristics perfect for a role model Hero, and is an all-rounder on the battlefield, possessing significantly fewer limitations than most of his classmates.

Shoji has been extensively working on his appendage generation and can control up to twenty productions at a time (so far), theoretically with no limit to how many more could spout from his form. He performs fairly well at school, suggesting his intellectual capacity is not lacking and has proven more than once that he is just as willing to fight through the pain as Deku is. Give this man a Bells (when he is of legal drinking age), because he certainly deserves a clap on the back!

Taking Shigaraki On

My Hero Academia The Most Underrated Hero in Class 1-A Shoji and Deku vs Shigaraki

Sure, Shigaraki is strong, but could he break through thousands of pounds of grip strength, distributed through several brawny arms attached to a determined and selfless individual? Seeing that more and more Hereos are arriving at Jaku Hospital's demolition site, chances are some of them would be able to provide enough of a distraction for Shoji to swoop in and grab hold of the precious, yet volatile cargo.

He could attempt to pummel Shigaraki to a pulp with Octoblow or Octo Expansion as Eraser Head keenly watches on (which unfortunately won't keep the Super Regeneration at bay), which could be enough to knock the Symbol of Fear unconscious. Shoji's enhanced durability may be able to withstand any attacks the incapacitated villain gets out, and besides, if any of Tentacole's limbs are damaged, he could simply regrow new ones. Regardless, capturing the slippery Shigaraki could give the other Heroes enough of an advantage to end things once and for all (and quickly, before Gigantomachia joins the fray and all hope is lost for good!)
