My Hero Academia is set in modern-day Japan, except in a superhuman society where people have abilities called quirks. It’s safe to say that in a superhuman society, there will be super evil and super good people, giving rise to the pro heroes who take it upon themselves to fight off the vilest and most terrifying of villains.

The story follows a boy named Izuku Midoriya, who dreams of someday becoming a Pro Hero. Thanks to his mentor and the greatest hero alive, All Might, his dream becomes more than a candle in the dark and starts to become a reality. Together with his help, Midoriya joins the UA Academy for Heroes, and it remains to be seen whether his dream will become reality. There have been a lot of amazing heroes in My Hero Academia. Actually, "amazing" is a bit of an understatement, but this piece shines a bright light on the less heroic pro heroes from the show.

8 Mr. Principal

Mr Principal holding a cup

Mr. Principal, who is also known as Nezu, is a pro-hero and the principal of U.A. High School. He is a combination of a different number of animals, which makes him a chimera and one of the very rare cases where an animal manifested a quirk. Because of his quirk, he has better senses and a higher IQ, which is why he can talk.

The principal does not appear a lot throughout the show, and when he does, it is mostly related to the school and its environs. He, like a fair few characters here, has very significant roles to play, and they do so to perfection, but he is not fancy enough to catch the flashy headlines.

7 Recovery Girl

Recovery Girl squeezing her mouth

Popular for her kisses, Recovery Girl, whose real name is Chiyo Shuzenji, is a pro-hero who works as a nurse at the U.A. Academy. Exactly as her hero name sounds, Chiyo’s quirk allows her to speed up the body’s healing process by planting a kiss on the patient, enabling her to control just how much a patient’s healing factor is boosted. She is, however, unable to heal severe injuries.

Important as her quirk maybe, fans do not get to see a lot of it as she barely appears throughout the show. Appearing just a few times through each season of the show, she is no doubt an integral member of the academy. However, that is just about it for her as a hero.

6 Bubble Girl

Bubble Girl looking with anxiety

Bubble Girl, whose true name is Kaoruko Awata, is easily identifiable by her distinctive blue skin tone and big round eyes. She is a pro-hero and worked as Sir Nighteye’s sidekick, and even after his passing, Bubble Girl continues to work as a sidekick to Centipeder, who took over from the deceased hero, Sir Nighteye.

Aside from being a sidekick, as mentioned, she does nothing else worthy of note throughout the show, seeing as she appears only a few times after the death of her former boss.

5 Present Mic

Much more akin to a radio host, Present Mic, whose real name is Hizashi Yamada, is a pro hero and a teacher at U.A. High School. Even though it seems like he has a good attitude, this is likely because he always gives a thumbs up as a response. His quirk called “voice" allows him to increase the volume of his voice, granting him an ability similar to a sonic scream. He has a much larger affinity for entertainment than hero work, and this is seen at some point when one of his students even mistook him for a simple announcer.

His most notable appearance through the show, aside from his usual commentary during events like the sports festival, is where he displays great grief and anger at discovering that the Nomu, Kurogiri, and Kurogiri were made from the corpse of his friend and former classmate, Oboro Shirakumo.

4 Manual

Manual looking dissapointed

Manual is a pro hero based in Hosu City and is currently ranked number 222 among the pro heroes. His real name is Mizushima Masaki. His quirk, though unnamed, allows him to control water. Manual, though portrayed as upstanding, kind, and keenly attentive, is pretty much an ordinary hero, with no outstanding achievements as yet.

During the Paranormal Liberation War, he showed that he could control Eraserhead's teardrops, which helped him keep using his quirk in battle. He did the same thing for the Phantom Thief during the Final War arc.

3 Lunch Rush

Lunch Rush cook hero

Lunch Rush is a pro hero that fans probably took no notice of at all through the show, and understandably so. Lunch Rush is the chef at the cafeteria at U.A. High School. So far, he has only said one sentence, and his most important role in the show is during the Final War Arc when he is in charge of making sure Creati has a steady supply of food, so she can keep feeding the people who are fixing and maintaining the fortress.

He is always wearing an apron and a chef’s hat, with a mask always over his face. Lunch Rush does a little but also a very significant job in the grand scheme of things.

2 Ms. Joke

Ms Joke smiling

Her name definitely gives a lot away. Known as the smile hero, Ms. Joke, whose real name is Emi Fukukado, is a pro hero and also a teacher at Ketsubutsu Academy High School, one of the hero academies that participated in the hero provisional license exam. Notably, she’s the class teacher of the second year. Known for her outgoing personality and her uncomfortable sense of humor, along with a quirk that leaves her targets in uncontrollable laughter while impairing their senses all the while, it’s no joke where the hero's name comes from.

Also, like other heroes here, she doesn’t get much screen time, with her most notable appearance being shamelessly flirting and poking fun at Eraserhead, Shota Aizawa, the class teacher to the first years at U.A. High School. Although she is very dedicated to her job as a teacher to budding young heroes, she is still but a small cog in the wheels of progress driving the Hero Association.

1 Death Arms

Death Arms looking and holding cigar

Death Arms used to be a pro-hero. His quirk gives his arms strength, which makes him super strong and able to carry things that would normally need heavy machinery to lift or carry.

He is portrayed as a serious person with tough conduct but has a fatal flaw in that he takes criticism hard, a little too hard at that. This flaw leads him to quit being a pro-hero after the Paranormal Liberation War due to unrestricted criticism from the public. This is enough to cancel out all of his heroic acts in the past, deflating his balloon of heroic acts. After all, this is business, and not everyone is cut out to be a hero.
