My Hero Academia is currently in its Final War arc and it goes without saying that this is the most important part of the story. Everything that Horikoshi has done over the years has led to this point and it'll be extremely interesting to see the many plot points be finally completed in this arc.

One of the most intriguing plot threads right now is that of the Todoroki Family, specifically Toya Todoroki. Going by the name of Dabi, Toya has endured quite a horrific past and that has shaped him to be one of the most intriguing villains seen in the story of My Hero Academia. Now, Toya is at the crossroads of life with his father and it'll be extremely interesting to see whether he ends up surviving or not.

Toya's Past

My Hero Academia Season 6, episode 17 review Dabi aka Toya's Hair Development

Toya Todoroki was born out of a Quirk Marriage, much like his siblings. Endeavor, his father, was obsessed with the idea of surpassing All Might. For his entire life, he tried his hardest to become the Number One Hero, however, the gulf of distance between him and the Number One was far too great. Realizing that he could not do it himself, Endeavor decided to have the perfect child that would one day go on to surpass All Might. He entered into a Quirk Marriage with Rei, who had the blood of the Himura Clan running through her veins. Combining his flame powers with her ice manipulation powers, Endeavor sought to create the perfect child and he spent much of his life abusing both his wife as well as his kids. Natsuo and Fuyumi were both subject to abuse and later, it was Toya's turn.

Endeavor quickly realized that he was not up to the task either and his fire Quirk was such that he ended up hurting himself every time he used it. Eventually, he got the perfect child in the form of Shoto Todoroki and, when this happened, Endeavor forbade Toya from using his Quirk that caused him harm and started ignoring him. Wanting his father's attention, Toya started practicing on his own but each time he did it, he would burn his body. Eventually, he got better, however, his control over his flames fumbled once and he ended up charring himself to a near-death state.

Toya As A Member Of The League

Not wanting his father to see him in such a sad state, he tried his best to put out the flames with water. Meanwhile, the Todoroki Family assumed that Toya was charred to death and that there was nothing left of him. In reality, Toya had survived and he was in a coma for around 3 years. His injuries were treated but much of his body was useless and, for that reason, replacements needed to be made. When Toya woke up and realized that he was in a condition to walk, he rejected all that was said to him and rushed back home, only to realize that his father was continuing his abusive behavior, this time with Shoto, and his family was still living under his tyrannical rule.

That day, Toya decided to kill the boy and instead be reborn as Dabi. He agreed with the philosophy of Stain that the Heroes these days only work for a considerable financial gain and they do not care about upholding good as true Heroes should do. Toya ended up joining the League of Villains and his goal in life became to destroy his father and everything that he stood for, as well as showing to the world what an abusive person he was.

Toya's Fate

Dabi

As a member of the League of Villains, Toya has helped Shigaraki on countless occasions. He is among his strongest underlings, after all. Slowly, he kept building towards his goals as well and aided Shigaraki and All For One both. In the Paranormal Liberation War, Dabi finally revealed his true identity to the entire world and made it known that Endeavor was responsible for him becoming a Villain as well as destroying the Todoroki Family from the inside. Shocking the entire world with the truth, Toya had his own character arc reach its pinnacle.

This has only carried over to the Final War arc where the Todoroki Family has decided to stop Toya for good and make amends for everything that went wrong in the past. Redemption isn't truly possible for everyone and it shouldn't be expected of Endeavor to simply be redeemed, however, he can't still make amends and hope for a better future for his children. His crimes can't be forgiven but if there's anything that he can do to make the lives of his children and wife better, the remaining years of his life should be spent doing that. That is precisely what is currently going down in the Final War arc.

Only, Toya looks to be beyond the point where he can receive help. His entire body is burning up and he has concentrated a core inside his body which will explode at any moment, consuming him as well as anyone within a radius of 5 km. Endeavor is trying his best to save as many lives as he possibly can, however, Rei has now shown up. Using her ice powers, she can, perhaps, suppress the burning core within Toya's body. At the same time, Shoto is also heading towards his parents and brother. When he does get there, it is possible that he will play a part in suppressing Toya's flames using his ice. While not certain, Natsuo and Fuyumi could also step in and help in some ways and, by the looks of it the Todoroki Family plotline is going to conclude with the rescue of Toya Todoroki and a new life starting from scratch.
