Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia is quite a brilliant story with tonnes of intriguing characters that shape the world. Each of the characters written in the series carries with them a compelling story and quite a few of them undergo some of the most amazing character arcs.

Writing great character arcs is one of Horikoshi's biggest strengths, however, there are some that clearly outshine the rest in My Hero Academia.

Twice

Twice was one of the members of the League of Villains and later went on to become a Lieutenant of the Paranormal Liberation Front. With his Double Quirk, he was quite a threat to the Hero Society. Twice was one of the better members of the League of Villains and quite well-liked among the fans.

This is down to his character arc which revolved around a split personality and his desire to protect his friends. Twice was, in a way, fighting his own fight and struggling to live in a world full of Heroes. Unfortunately, he met his end at Hawks' hands.

Mirio Togata

Mirio vs Chisaki

One of the strongest Hero aspirants, Mirio is a part of the Big Three of the U.A. His character story is quite intriguing as he was born with an unusual Quirk with little to no benefits. In more ways than one, this Quirk was actually a disadvantage to him, that is, until he worked tremendously hard at it and made it good.

Currently, Mirio's Quirk can be considered to be one of the most dangerous ones in the story. Over the years, he's put a tremendous amount of effort into becoming the greatest Hero that he possibly can be and save a million lives with a smile on his face. Even if it costs him his life, Mirio will always protect those who need saving.

Bakugo

Bakugo is one of the strongest written characters in My Hero Academia. Although once a bully, Bakugo has gone through great character progression and has realized the worth of having a friend to cherish and protect.

Realizing his own mistakes, Bakugo has taken it upon himself to make things right. His redemption arc is certainly one of the best in the series and his character is one that fans cherish now more than ever, thanks to the brilliant writing by Horikoshi.

Izuku Midoriya

Izuku Midoriya in My Hero Academia

Izuku is the protagonist of My Hero Academia and remains to be the focal point of the entire series. Being born without a Quirk, Izuku already had a compelling story to tell. However, being chosen as All Might's next successor only made his story better. Izuku has huge shoes to fill and he works tremendously hard every single day to not just live up to the expectations that fans have from the next Symbol of Peace, but also to go even beyond to surpass that.

Izuku wants to save everyone who needs saving and, at times, he also saves those who others wouldn't consider worthy of help. This is what makes him different from the rest of the Heroes and also why he is special as he is.

Shoto Todoroki

Shoto is quite easily one of the very best characters in My Hero Academia. He possesses the potential to surpass even All Might, which is nothing short of staggering. The intriguing part about his character, however, stems from his family.

Dealing with all sorts of conflict from a very young age, Shoto has had an incredible character arc of accepting who he is and using what he has to protect the people he loves. At the same time, Shoto is a person who was grown to learn how to forgive and work towards fixing burnt bridges.

Dabi

Dabi from My Hero Academia

Dabi, Also known as Toya Todoroki, is Shoto's brother and, just like him, has a character arc revolving around his family. When compared to Shoto, he's quite the opposite. After spending his entire childhood trying to impress his father and make him acknowledge his strength, Toya ended up burning himself to a crisp.

Holding his family rightly accountable for all that, he plans to burn the world down, especially his father, Enji Todoroki. Dabi is a villain through and through and his character has been nothing short of spectacular.

Shigaraki Tomura

Shigaraki Tomura is one of the main antagonists of My Hero Academia and quite possibly the most intriguing character written by Horikoshi. As a child, he wasn't all that different from Izuku and looked up to the Heroes.

Unlike Izuku, however, he never received the helping hand that he so desperately desired. With a Quirk as destructive as his, he ended up tearing down everything that he considered precious by accident and turned into the monster that he is today.

Endeavor

Endeavor from My Hero Academia

Endeavor's character arc is, quite possibly, the best in My Hero Academia. Once obsessed with the idea of surpassing All Might, Endeavor even went as far as engaging in a Quirk marriage to produce an offspring that would surpass his rival.

Endeavor was an abusive parent and husband and his actions severely scarred the entire Todoroki Family. Yet, now he realizes the weight of his actions and the decisions that he made in the past. He tries his best to own up to his mistakes and ensure that his family lives the best possible life in the future. Endeavor is quite a hateful character, yet it goes without saying that his redemption arc is one of the best things about the series.
