The following content contains spoilers from My Hero Academia, Season 6, episode 22, currently streaming on Crunchyroll. One would think that Deku's life might have improved since awakening One For All's full potential; however, the young hero appears to be spiraling towards his doom, playing perfectly into All For One's hands. While his track record for defeating rouge Villains is pretty decent, all good things must come to an end, and a random Tartarus escapee is ready and waiting to deal the final blow.

Deku has systematically burnt the bridges that have been keeping him alive, but self-reliance can only get him so far. Fortunately, Class 1-A saves the day after practically bullying their way onto the battlefield; not led by Tenya, Shoto, or Ochaco, but by Bakugo, of all people.

Dark Deku Vs. Dictator

My Hero Academia Bakugo and the Power of Friendship Season 6 episode 22 Deku vs Dictator

This tyrant may have been a big enough threat to imprison in Tartarus; however, considering that Deku already knew the Dictator's Achilles' Heel, he shouldn't have posed much of a problem for the efficient young Hero. However, because he insists on pushing himself past breaking point, he is no longer at top form and would likely become overwhelmed by the most menial miscreant at this point. Deku just needs to knock the Villain unconscious or hit one of the Dictator's puppets with enough force and all will be over; however, Izuku's tired mind is quickly overwhelmed, and he spends too much time overthinking.

Instead of sticking to the basics, using a relatively normal attack, maybe with his fists (which are already quite weak and therefore cannot cause too much damage), Deku gets lost assessing his multiple Quirks, trying to decide which one will work best in this situation. Deku would have likely been captured by this random baddie if Class A hadn't intervened, rescuing the fallen Hero from his suicide mission with a well-aimed Armour Piercing Shot from Bakugo.

A Friend In Need

My Hero Academia Bakugo and the Power of Friendship Season 6 episode 22 Deku with All Might

"If there were one thing Izuku Midoriya needs right now, it would be [a] 'Friend.'"

Bakugo may be rather full of himself, but that hasn't stopped him from subtly paying attention to others, and he is the first to pick up that leaving All Might and Deku to their own devices is probably the worst thing anyone could do. Bakugo has known Izuku longer than anyone else involved and is well aware of how deep his Hero complex is rooted, and the risks that his childhood rival is willing to take in the name of justice. During combat, Deku allows his determination for victory to overpower his self-preservation instincts; putting himself in danger seems to have become part of the Dark Hero's everyday battle tactics.

Meanwhile, All Might is a bit of a pushover when Deku is concerned, likely overcompensating for the burden he passed onto the young boy and the promises made to Inco. So basically, leaving this pair unattended is asking for trouble, as no one can reign Deku in from his self-destructive warpath. Except, maybe, his greatest frenemy (and the rest of Class A.) And even one of the most brilliant minds in My Hero Academia, Principle Nezu, agrees that Bakugo has got a good point; now for the hard part, getting Izuku on board! He is not going down without a fight, quite literally, as things come to blows in Season 6, episode 23, "Deku Vs. Class A."

The plan is to convince the young Hero to return to the safety of UA High School, even if it is just as a base of operations, this would be leaps and bounds ahead of Deku's current arrangement (is he living on the streets?) True, bringing All For One's target into this safety net will essentially endanger all the evacuees at UA; however, the Academy's top-notch defense system is still operable (seeing as they didn't need it during the School Festival.) Even if the Villains manage to pinpoint Deku's location and break into the school, the additional barricade should give the helpless residents and Heroes enough time to get everyone to safety (hopefully.)

Deku and Bakugo's Paradox Syndrome

My Hero Academia Bakugo and the Power of Friendship Season 6 episode 22 Deku with Bakugo

It is quite clear that Great Explosion Murder God Dynamite hasn't just upgraded his name, as Bakugo's E.Q. has also improved substantially since viewers first met the hot head. Although he is still a bit of a ticking timebomb, Bakugo has turned into quite the Hero, who is willing to risk everything to save someone he arguably doesn't even like, but knowing he is the perfect man for the job. The fierce competition between these two might end up being their saving grace, although hopefully, it doesn't end in disaster (Bakugo is not known for pulling his punches!)

The boys' story has basically come full circle. At first, Izuku was the one chasing Bakugo and saving him from his own egotistical choices, as Bakugo always considered himself stronger than average, often to his own detriment. Now Deku is the one with a chip on his shoulder, believing himself to be the only one who can solo the boss, without taking the concept of teamwork into consideration. Fans all know how Bakugo used to handle teamwork (it was an oil-and-water type relationship) but now he is the leader of the pack, rallying the loyal troops to his side to save Deku from his masochistic tendencies.
