Murder mysteries are all the rage these days, and with Netflix still crowing over the success of Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion, it makes sense for them to drop the trailer to Murder Mystery 2, starring romcom stalwarts Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler as a hapless couple who find themselves in way over their heads going on another zany adventure.

Netflix, on their YouTube channel, dropped a trailer for the sequel to Murder Mystery, coming out on March 31, 2023, and it's as full of Aniston and Sandler as anybody could stand.

The trailer opens up with a nighttime shot of the Eiffel tower cutting to an interior of a quaint French café where “La Vie en rose” backgrounds the diners when a van suddenly comes bursting through the wall. The door opens and Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston’s Nick and Audrey Spitz are seen, holding an aluminum briefcase, and saying bonjour in the most annoying way possible. So begins the explosive start of Netflix’s trailer for Murder Mystery 2. The story opens with the couple being invited by their friend, the Maharajah, to come to his private island for his wedding, to which Audrey points out that the last time they had a getaway a lot of people died. Nick asks if she really thinks five people is a lot.

Like the cast of Glass Onion, the Spitzes are soon swallowing up the life of luxury on a private island where they go gaga over all the gifts awaiting them simply for showing up, such as earrings, iPhones, and fuzzy handcuffs. They enter a Bollywood-themed wedding party except when it’s time for the groom to appear, he rides in on an elephant and falls off, dead. It turns out it’s not the maharajah, but that’s only the start of the mystery. Nick quickly realizes it’s to cover for the kidnapping of the real maharajah. When the “real detective” played by Mark Strong shows up he tells them their reputations have preceded them, and not in a good way.

Soon they’re ordered to deliver 50 million dollars to the Arc de Triomphe or the maharajah will die. “Well,” says Nick to Audrey, “You always wanted to go to Paris.” It then cuts to what caused the crash in the opening, that of Nick and Audrey comedically fighting—and accidentally killing—the kidnappers in the van which causes it to crash into the restaurant. After that, a montage follows of the rest of the action, with Audrey ziplining up the Eiffel tower, the couple running and jumping out the window of a chateau into a river, and watching as a car with the money in it explodes before a black-clad motorcyclist walks through the flames, gets the briefcase, then gets pancaked by a garbage truck. “Now I’m very confused!” Nick yells as the credits for Murder Mystery 2 play.

Murder Mystery 2 lands March 31, 2023.
