MultiVersus is aptly described as a Super Smash Bros.-like fighter, not just for its platformer-fighting gameplay but also due to its roster of characters from a diverse range of franchises. Where Nintendo's characters all come from video games, however, MultiVersus is pulling from film, television, and games. Players are understandably making requests for their favorite Warner Bros. characters, some of which MultiVersus' developers didn't expect. However, character development priorities are already shifting as a result.

MultiVersus game director Tony Huynh is frequently talking with players via Twitter, addressing frustrations and congratulating successes. From time to time, Huynh offers some insight into what the developers at Player First Games are working on. Sometimes he even shares a hint of what's coming next. In a recent tweet, Huynh addressed what he and the team thinks of character requests. But it's what he adds regarding how the team addresses those requests that's especially surprising.

Huynh explains that character requests, in fact, "determine a lot of which characters we pursue." In other words, requests play a major role in who is being worked on for MultiVersus. Even more specific, Huynh says that there's a MultiVersus character being worked on right now that previously wasn't a priority but has been moved up due to player requests. If players were to mount a campaign to get a character added to MultiVersus, it very well may lead to their eventual inclusion.

While Huynh doesn't explicitly state what character is now being worked on, MultiVersus players are free to speculate based on who has been heavily requested recently. One strong candidate is Breaking Bad's Walter White, though whether that's realistic remains in question. Other than that, there are a number of other popular character options, like Ben 10, Gandalf, Scorpion, Godzilla, and Daffy Duck, as well as anime characters, but not necessarily any virally popular options.

This Twitter post from Huynh is likely going to disrupt his social media as he's buried in new requests for MultiVersus characters, but in the long run it's a smart decision. Engaging MultiVersus players in the character selection process is a good way to keep the community active and excited about the game's future.

Whoever the character being alluded to by Huynh is, they won't be confirmed for a while yet. Season 1 of MultiVersus is plotted out for the time being. Next will be Rick of Rick and Morty, followed by Black Adam and Stripe from the Gremlins movies. It could be 2023 before this character is eventually revealed.

MultiVersus is available now in Open Beta on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
